Break-in and car to car variation due to gas in oil
I definitely have the smell of fuel in my oil. I never sure as to why, but I kind of figured it was because of the "fuel dumping" at high rpms from the factory to avoid detonation.
break in/gas smell
First oil change @ 850 mi.; took a sample to send off to a lab in order to determine gas smell as well as a general analysis. In talking with reputable sources there seems to be an issue with the hydrocarbon content; apparently many evo's have experienced 1500-6000 ppm whereas 100-500 is considered normal. One source thought gas smell was due to egr. If hydrocarbon content is high then I'll consider a leakdown test. Best regards, lance
I'm not going to sweat it. It's like worrying about the size of your dick. If it's not living up to expectations there's not much that can be done about it at this point short of major corrective surgery.
I've heard that chicks laugh at the sight of small dicks. Fortunately, in this case, no one is likely to laugh or even notice if you've got excessive ring/cylinder wall blowby.

What is hydrocarbon content? How would that affect the car in the long run? How do you bring it back to normal?
Never happened to me either...but I feel for u homie!

Err, me neither. Sheesh, reading comprehension is non-existant on these boards. No wonder so many threads turn in flame-fests. I guess that's what I get for straying off topic...

Everyone seems to think that GTX is the best of the commonly available brands. Some of my racing buddies swear by Kendall oil, but I hardly ever come across that stuff.

I ran GTX for 1500 mile with a light breakin. Then castrol semi-synth (syntec), to 3500. Then fully synthetic Castrol formula RS Racing or TSW from then on. No problems.
No other market in the world for Evo 8s recommend synth from the start.

It is a very good oil. The UW engineering department tested oils back when mobil 1 first came out. GTX did very well especially in the physical breakdown tests, better than mobil 1.

The UK evo owners swear by it.

Oh also I'm not to sure if it's really rs that they are selling.
Boy how do I know this, well lets just say I had a few BMWs in the past.
I can tell you that:
-it's not 0w30 weight
-it's real castrol RS synthetic
-It's nowhere near $3.40 per quart more like $10 per quart
I don't know all the details but if you'd like I can ask my friend
