Dewd, it got shut-out at all the track events in a no-holds barred racing competition ... in my book that = a$$ whooped. But to each his own.

Hi Jcnel,

unfortunately I cannot, I can only quote from the CAR and DRIVER mag:

""Although Gerrard’s Mitsu was in the top five or six runners at every circuit through the week, and actually posted the quickest time of all in the first road circuit time trial on a damp track at Heartland Park in Kansas, Fuller was always close behind.

Thus it came down to who could circle the skidpad quickest, and Gerrard prevailed, winding up seventh to Fuller’s 15th, nailing down class honors as well as fifth in the overall standings. Fuller, working with about half the horsepower of Gerrard’s highly-tuned Mitsubishi, was a very creditable sixth overall. ""

"Working with about half the horsepower" was the what made me post the highly unmodified comment.

Cheers

Mikeguava back and read the thread, that C&D assumption is wrong. Shiv's Evo is not making nearly 800hp..

Too bad the pump fuel will hurt the performance for this quest for the Vishnu team, but best of luck guys!

cheers

The STI was clearly whooped. As you mentioned, it only reason we placed where we placed was due to the near last place finish we got at the wet skidpad which cost us over 300 points in the final standing. Looking at lap times will illustrate the difference between the Fuller's STi and our EVO. Especially at the beginning of the series we we pulled out the stops. Towards the end of the series, we pretty much had 4th place locked with little or no chance for 3rd so we started to run just as fast as we needed to

True dat.

I my book a marginal win is not an a$$ whooping. Especially if winning against a clearly inferior opponent.
But if for you it is an a$$ whooping, we just have different standards. Not trying to say that yours are a lot lower. But like you said:

To each his own.

Correct. Blake's STi was making around 350bhp with our EVO pushing 450-480bhp. Still a pretty big difference but not the trouncing that Tony Swan (at C&D) suggested. If we were the underdog, does that make Blake the underdog to the underdog?

Been trying to find the lap times, no luck yet online. Been very curious about that myself.
No pun against your car and effort BTW, just thought that the A$$whooping comment was a bit harsh.

Actually only become interested 'bout this tread since I have been researching your website trying make a decision on what car I am going to be purchasing. Subie or EVO. Will be the first car I am having to buy, and wanna make sure that it can have the right performance.
I prefer the EVO overall, just the looks are a bit of a turn off to me...The WRC look would be the right one...can't have it all.

Once again good luck in the shoot out

Cheers

IMO Evo vs. STi seems to come down to this for most ppl (couple of guys here at work have STi's, so we've had this discussion )

Evo: cheaper, unreal handling, not quite as fast as STi stock but easier to mod, cheap but spacious interior, poor stereo.

STi: more expensive, does not handle as good, faster than Evo in a straight line but loses on a circuit, not as easy/forgiving to mod, better but smaller interior, better stereo.

Personally I chose the Evo because I want handling above straight line speed, and I know I can get all the speed I'll ever need and more by modding it. I put in my own stereo, so no biggie there either, and personally I like the interior of the Evo, it's plain, but it is roomy and very functional. I got an '03 ... '04s are even nicer, cuz they have the 7/100K warranty.

If you can't live w/out the creature comforts, then the subie is your bet, if you want uncompromised performance, then go with the Evo.... just my $.02

The result of each track session (with lap times) can be found at:

PS. The STi doesn't come with a stereo

Couldn't figure out how to navigate that site...found it now. Yep! Quite a bit more obvious now! Looks like a fun week. Going to sign up next year and going to do some whooping myself! Maybe with an EVO too...

Great advice, thanks a lot. And solid (dependable) performance is all I am looking for.

Now back to the topic. Don't wanna hijack this thread, espcially not with my first posts in this forum

Shiv...

Could you remind us if the EVO had a stock bottom end? All you did to the bottom end, or motor internals for that fact was put in some ARP Rod Bolts (oil pan removal and bolt install), ARP head stud install, cams, and some cam gears, correct? What about headwork? New springs and retainers? Basically...there is still the origional crank, pistons, rods?

Ahh...the beauty of working on an inline four. (Except in the case of a sportbike's inline four.) j/k

Thanks,

Cheers,

jcnel.

Yep, the One Lap car had a most stock bottom end. The only upgrades were ARP rod bolts and heatstuds. The actual block, crank, pistons, rods, etc,. where original with 35k miles and 4000 dyno pulls on them The head was worked over with headworks, springs, retainers and cams. I honestly didn't see massive hp gains with headwork but, then again, we didn't push the motor to 10/10ths.

Those laps times certainly show the superior car and it may be due to the superiority of the Evo platform. I'm sure there are a few STI's in the 500whp range? However, I'm less confident in the STI’s ability to match the Evo's reliability at high HP levels currently. Overtime we will see, but I'm most amazed at the consistent reliable performance throughout the One Lap Events of Shiv's Evo. That may be the most under appreciated feat of that little red grocery getter!
