I agree with this quote.
Took my car to the track this weekend, and found out that the car is indeed amazing. Other cars present were Corvettes, M3s, STIs, 911s, etc...
Took em all under braking, coming out of the hairpin, accelerating down the straight (for you dragsters), inside, exiting the carousel (when they had to make use of all the road, and you didn't), outside on the carousel (ha, ha that was the best!)
I'm pretty much your average heavy-footed driver, just like they were, I presume. So it was all EVO....
I suggest hooking up with a car club, take your EVO to the track, and DRIVE it. If you don't drive home with a smile (uh, yeah, didn't have to trailer the car, unlike some...), then you're just being too hard on yourself.
And all these comparisons, "better this, better that, we gotta win, don't want to get smoked, make sure it puts out 1000hp", whatever...will just be like "cartoons" - because you definitely now know that you do drive something special.
my 2c

ps: aftermarket exhaust system, tuned at vishnu by Shiv (and I have all the "kills" stated above on video too)

At what level did you find that you needed to upgrade the head studs and rod bolts?

We didn't really find any level to do this upgrade. We just did it as a preventitive measure in preparation for One Lap where we'd be sustaining high boost and high rpm for extended periods of time.

Shiv

I also vote to keep the trailer hitch in! That would be awesome.

But don't hold back on those guys, make them wish you weren't invited!

Best of luck, no-one better for the challenge in my opinion.

sorry to go off topic here, but That unabommmer pic is hilarous. What a joke that was: "be on the lookout for a guy with 80's sunglasses and a hooded sweatshirt who is never seen because he mails things!!!" ahahahahhaha

RIGHT ON!!! I wholeheartedly agree that getting invited to this event is a win all by itself. I also feel "personally" invested in this and how you do as a great fan! (fan of this whole evo community...Al and Shiv both ) Shiv, you've done a fantastic job of stirring things up already at OneLap. You've got the priorities straight on mods: Driver, suspension and diff set-up, HP. I really will be rooting for you guys. Hell, I wish I could help you do well somehow...Ok, here's my attempt: LOSE THE AC!! I'll buy you ice from wherever to wherever and little baseball caps with fans on them and...what-the-hell...a bunch of cans of freon you can just puncture inside the cabin whenever it gets hot I liked Pesto's input about going "all out". I think you guys have an opportunity to really make an impression and I think you know that. I also think you're downplaying your potential to catch up and be in the pack because of the pressure. That's what I'd be doing. But don't hold back so that you didn't REALLY give it your all. Run that map you ran on the first road course (after the water track) that you said was so aggressive... and don't back off. Yeah, easy for ME to say, eh? Well, I know you have to run a different map as you can't use race gas, but run it to the wall like you did on that section of One Lap!!

As for anything else...I think your best chance at stemming the bleeding in the 1/4 is to launch fast and hard and be LIGHT. Lose any battery weight you can, lose EVERY ounce of weight that you can. It'll be a trophy well worth the bit of accoutrement lost if you can take home a "not last" spot in the overall lineup and I definitely think you can. I just think there's likely a bit more weight that can come off...without it being hideously glaring (like removing all the windows)

As for the spoiler, you said it would have really helped to have a lot more downforce in the big sweeping curves...I know you like the stock one, but it just can't do that, even with the aluminum Home Depot addition If it hurts the 1/4 a whole lot, could you rig one that can be raised at the end of the 1/4? I've been waiting to see someone come out with a raising-lowering wing...surprised not to see one yet.

I can't shut up I'm just so friggin' excited for you guys. It's like the US Olympic Hockey team up against the Russians...if you could hear the roar from all us fans, it'd blow the roof off the Vishnu shop. Go get 'em Shiv....bite their asses even if they do stay a nudge ahead.

Whos gonna be left in the super 4 group? Or do you get ranked in both?

Also how is meeting their sound measurement requirements going to be a factor, if any?

"Uh, yeah, I put the sunglasses on there becuase I'm not so good at drawing eyes..."

"And abou that hair, um, I'm not so good at hair either, so I put a hood on him. Pretty creative of me huh?"

Ever see that Norm episode on SNL? Hillarious.

Hey Shiv, I think you should try to keep the "tuner" aspect to a minimum. If you have read previous C&D shootouts, they tend to go they way of "we told them to show up, and they brought us this product", then it broke. It might be worth it to limit the car to a known good setup, and leave it at that. The C&D guys don't want a car that has to have a tuner rolling in around with it, whether it is to keep it from breaking or to program the computers on the fly. Put a solid package together, present it, and walk away confident that it will perform. You (and the Evo) can do that for sure, while outrunning several of the others in the process...

BTW, props to you for getting in the shootout at all...funny how there isn't an STi tuner invited (joke)

Some suggestions: how about putting one of the MR diffusers on your Evo? Every little bit helps, right? Ditch the antenna, if you haven't already, get canards.

And lastly ... I hope it rains that day, hehe. Nothing like seeing a 700hp vette trying to stay on a wet track.

We (the Evo) do have one advantage over all the other guys ... AWD

You guys must have missed the entire writeup about the One Lap of America challenge. The Vishnu Evo is tuned for DRY and totally flailed in the wet. Put them in last place on wet loop. Go read...then quit praying for rain.

I've only read the first post but in years past you had to run pump gas. If so that will be a painfull read for sure. I think alky/methanol injection is legal thoug so I would get to work at something like that. otherwise you will only beat whomever breaks. Good luck!!!!

They only did poorly on the wet skidpad ... and the very next day on a "drying" track they put over 7 seconds on the next closest car and ran the best 1/4 mile.
