Reno Area anybody?
The pre star spec dunlops are terrible, just fyi. If you can talk them into taking those off, you could get real star specs for super cheap. Take a look at dunloptires.com and look at the tread difference in the old vs the stars. The stars have HUGE tread blocks, which means more rubber on the road. With all the siping, those dz101's could almost double as an all season. NOBODY liked those until the star specs came out, and they are doing really well now. The reviews on tire rack for the dz101's should be all you need to see hehe. But if they come with those and they are cheap, can just burn them off at the track and get better tires after. I just wouldnt do the deal thinking those tires will be good track rubber bro.
Just my opinion though, Im a super tire junkie and read everything about all of them. My next set is going on my track rims, and Im leaning towards NT01 Nittos. Hoosier R6's and Goodyear R1's are in that running too, just havent decided yet.

Gotcha. If they'll take some money off the wheels if I don't take the tires than that'll be fine by me. I'd rather not go with a racing compound for my 1st season of autox because I believe that puts me in a different group, or adds a street tire modifier if you run a street tire, so the RE01R's or the Star Specs would be great and I know they last forever, compared to other tires with similar performance levels.
Ya exactly man. Definitely go with the star specs, alot cheaper then the RE-01R's and honestly Im hearing pretty much same performance. With a turbo upgrade and all that, you should still be in SM but not sure, you may have bumped to XP. In SM, you can run any tire you want. I run RE-01R's and am still competitive, but get beat with the guys on slicks. I want to upgrade my track rims hehe. The reno region actually does a T modifier, so like SMT, which is for the tires your running. You can be in T if you are running a street tire, but your still in that class it just goes towards your pax which is really worthless. You will really enjoy your first season on star specs, and I would bet next year you are looking at slicks haha!

You'll stay in SM. You can put pretty much the biggest turbo they make on the car and you'll still stay in SM. You would never go to XP. The only thing that would move you out of SM is if you altered the structure / frame of the car (such as cut the front crash beam to fit a bigger intercooler. Common with STi's that want a front mount). That would put you in SU or Street Unlimited.
As far as the street tire modifier, say you're going to run Dunlop Z101 star specs, or something similar, and were going into Street Modified (SM). The tire modifier is for any tire with a treadwear of 140 or higher. Your class letters would look like this TSM. Without, just SM. To get the street tire modified times, just multiply your best raw time by the SM PAX and then the sTreet tire factor(.975). In autocross, that will give you your TSM PAX time that will put you in overall competition with any and everything from a slow Buick, to a Ferrari Enzo.
I have to disagree that it is worthles though. Autocross really is an entry level motorsport, and in the SCCA scope, its made to provide an affordable alternative to wheel to wheel racing. That said, the street tire PAX provides an equal opportunity in competition between someone with sponsors out the ***, and a bottomless unlimited bank account, against somebody who's still paying thier own way through school.
I am the Timing chief for next season SCCA, so any questions you might have, feel free to ask.

We didnt have a street tire mod down in vegas, so I didnt know exactly what it did. Thanks for the clear up Kris. Ya evo's dont pax well at all, it was always the karts and a couple guys in really fast honda's that took pax. Thats why I was like figuring it was useless hehe.
I'll most likely be TSM next year too Tripp, unless a gift of hoosiers falls out of the sky it doesnt look like I'll be able to afford them anytime soon

Pax seems to belong to vettes or carts up here. Just wait. Stead is one of, if not the best auto x location in the west. Its tons of fun. Better than doing it in a parking lot. And RFR is one of the best road courses I've ever been on. Really lucky as far as the real motorsports are concerned. Too bad we dont have the events to compliment the tracks.
Selling my evo and/or parting it out. If anybody wants or needs anything reply or pm me. Most of you know what i have.
Money is tight until I get a job. Then im probably going the way of a Lotus Exige, unless GTR's significantly drop in price by the summer.

I swear if you change lanes too fast the rear end feels like its swinging around. I should probably soften up my suspension though, its still set for track I just didnt want to have to mess with it hehe.
LOL ya the robispec K dubs are definitely a step up from the flex's hehe. Im not a fan of JDM coilovers... I had a free set of flex's come my way, all he wanted in return was my bilsteins. He was trading his car in was the reason, I still declined. They had like 60k miles on them and that was the main concern I had, didnt want to rebuild them.
