A good and well taken care of VIII is as much of a fun car as the IX. Again if I had the choice between an '06 for 20k and a X for say 24k, I'd take the X.

The X has always been better looking being right there, then from photos. I don't know why they look so much better in person ... perhaps its the darth vader nose plus the focal length of modern cameras, I digress.

The X has a lot of the upgrades you'd end up doing to a 9, and imho a much better chassis for wide tires, suspension tuning, a better bore and stroke, turbo, and Dual MIVEC anyways.

If I had to get a VIII I'd seriously look at something like Timmay's, if I really wanted a front LSD, I'd get a unit from RRE or Shep. Plus I'd rebuild properly the rear LSD anyways. That's about 3k on a bad day.

So ...
Timmay's Evo VIII for 13k + 3k for LSD mods = 16k
or Evo X for 24k
or Evo IX for 20k + 3k LSD mods (again) = 23k (basically X price)

The math says get peeps to drop the price on an IX, get the VIII, or spring for the X.

If I were in your shoes right at this very moment, and knowing what I know, I'd go for the X as a killer Daily Driver (sorry Timmay). If I was looking at a fun race-type car, I'd spring for Timmay's VIII.

i mostly agree, ive never really liked the X, i daily drove my car for the last 2 years and its worked nice
oh and you can get LSD in a Viii for much cheaper than 3k!! Ive seen 04 RS diffs with it go for about 800 then a few hundred to install
or have it sent to shep for upgrades you could have a built up one for like 2k

Keep in mind that a used IX in decent condition is going to fetch more than 20k, unless the seller is desperate. Like I said, people are charging out the *** for them right now. Trend seems to be more like you can get a used 08 for the same price as a used 06, especially if you look hard enough.

And yeah, MIVEC is offset by cams (which Timmay already has) and the LSD is an easy fairly cheap fix and you get something better than the IX LSD.

The only thing you are REALLY missing from VIII to IX is the ACD (since I don't think you could, or even if it would be worth it, swap one in). But the ACD is really not all that cool. Even my DCCD isn't all that cool, especially all the modes. I just need 5, nothing in between. Forced front, forced rear, full auto, auto rear and auto front. And I rarely use more than the full auto and the two rear settings.

You're missing the interior and exterior, but that can be had for a price. At least most of it. And considering the nature of the 4g63, even one with high miles isn't a concern as long as there is no rust damage (and I would be willing to be that there isn't any on Timmay's car) since so many high quality aftermarket parts are available for just about every part of the car. So, essentially, with a bit of work and money you could have a "brand new" car besides the frame. And the 7k difference between 13k and 20k could probably handle a very large chunk of the "renewing" process, especially since the tranny has already been done. And that could probably all wait at least another 50-100k miles

However, like j said, if you're going for a good long term DD that won't take much upkeep from a regular grandma sedan, then the X is the way to go.

Nate and Gearhead both have not recommended over 22~23 psi on a stock turbo. Im running a Evo 8 turbo with 10.5 hotside tuned at 22 psi on 91 octane.

It's definately possible, I know of an evo running 26 psi on 91 octane & he has had favorable results....just be real careful with your tuning.

Btw I ran 24psi on stock turbo (evo 8 10.5hs) on pump. It turned out good results, 368whp on dynojet

Id like to boost & run 7-10psi on my BMW inline 6 + boost =
