Just smogged with bolt ons, cams, and a tune no problem. Just have your stock cat installed and all is well.

He didn't bend down and peak around for the down pipe or O2 housing, but all that is visible on the top of my engine is a carb approved intake, and that was enough to have him shut the hood. So I would say no it wasent very thorough. In my person experience they rarely are.

I guess that depends on the technician and where you take your car for a smog test.My technician did check my cat and o2 sensor as part of his visual.

The trick is to keep your license out of state, if you get a drivers license here in cali and get pulled over with out of state plates they will give you a ticket. if you have out of state license and plates they will leave you alone, I use to keep my camaro's registered in wyoming and I got out of so much stuff it was ridiculous. One cop told me he didnt want to deal with the paper work.

For all you CA Evo Owners!

Hello,

Sometime this Spring I may possibly be moving to CA to attend the University of California. I'm decently familliar with CA and have some family that live there. We have scoped out some areas and have decided that San Diego is the place we want to be. Being from the Midwest emissions aren't a huge concern especially if you know the guy who owns the inspection shop lol. My current setup is a fp red "64mm" jm fab o2 dump and 3" custom tbe exhaust "Straight Pipe", with a exhaust cutout installed where the cat used to be and a basic 3" muffler. The car is an E-85 car and put down 530hp 500 tq at AMS last summer. My only concern is the compatibility of my car with the emissions and laws in CA. I am not aware of the laws and am a bit concerned. I understand that some alteration's may be necessary as I am ready to make some changes if need be. I will have the option to keep the plates from my home State on the car as well but also wonder if that would draw more attention to my car. So basically to sum things up, here are my questions.

1. On the above setup about the Exhaust, if I were to license the car in CA what would need to be changed?

2. Is CA strict on aftermarket parts in general? Are you allowed to run aftermarket turbo's or does it have to be Stock Appearing?

3. What happends if you are pulled over and dont meet the CA requirements but the car is licenced in another state, do you have to abide by CA's rules?

4. Once you pass inspection are you good? Or will they pull you over at random and smog test my car?

5. Does anyone know any shops around San Diego that are exhaust friendly that usually arent as strict at passing a car for an inspection? If so shoot me a pm.

These next few questions might be a little off topic but also just out of curiosity....

6. How is the Car scene in San Diego and SOCAL in general? Lots of meets and spirited cruises Any close drag tracks that are 1/4 or 1/8 mile.

I appreciate any help that you may provide. If everything goes through I look forward to meeting some of you at any upcoming meets and events.

Here in Cali Evos don't get hassled as much as Hondas do lol, but if ur car is loud u have a greater chance of getting pulled over. If the cop knows what he is looking at then he will more then likely send u to the ref and get smoged. Cops are pretty strict when it comes to mods :/. If u are able to run more of a stealthier setup it will help. There are a lot of meets just check out socalevo.net I'm sure it will help.

If you're moving to Sac you might want to sign up on evoempire.org since the membership is mostly norcal while socalevo.net is mostly socal people.
