You can't be too confused, the law says yes you need to smog check the car. If your buyer has an issue and decides to take you to court or doesn't get it inspected and gets pulled over with it registered in your name----guess what, your responsible. Just get it done. If it wont pass figure out why and be up front with the buyer.

I cant say, but I would think as long as you have a cat and egr and everything is working ie, no codes ( and you can got to autozone to get a reader to check it out for nothing) you should be ok.

HKS intake is not CARB legal. It all depends on the smog tech if they want to pass it or not. (Most likely they will not pass it)

If it's his dads friend and he's willing to not see it, he should be ok

Playap07, that's a nice deal. If I could get away with that, I would.

mp72: Already done. Honestly, I hadn't changed much hardware on the car anyway, I just removed a lot (I actually can't believe I saved all those solenoids, and the charcoal canister). I have a couple of ECU changes to make, and then we'll see how things go at the DMV.

razorlab: I'm pretty sure I saw your IX today leaving Alameda. (Your plates are...memorable. ) I took your advice after spending a little time looking at the "great deals" I'd seen online in Oakland. Google Street View doesn't really convey "seediness" very well. Alameda was pretty much exactly what I was looking for, but I didn't expect to find a place like this anywhere near SF or Oakland. The 25mph thing is a little unusual, but with as much pedestrian traffic as there is, it makes sense. I signed the lease on Thursday.

(I'm actually trying really hard to figure this out: rents (and some housing prices) here are reasonable, the area is laid-back and pedestrian/cyclist-friendly, plenty of greenery and stuff to do outdoors, most services are right here on the island, and it's within easy commuting distance of wherever you might want to work. Anywhere else, I'd expect the rent to be sky-high, so what's the downside that I'm missing? A month out of the year where some insanely poisonous insect takes over the island? Monsoon season?)

Actually it's a 8. Where you the graphite gray Evo that was behind me on Webster today?

You caught me in the rare weekend I actually drive my Evo. I am usually driving my RA Sportback nowadays.

So you got got a place in Alameda? Where? Are we neighbors now?

The only downside to Alameda is that the resturants, bars, etc get old. However it's so close to Oakland and San Francisco it doesn't really matter.

The other downside, and I was reminded of recently because of Japan, is that we would basically get wiped out if a Tsunami came to the bay area. It would funnel through the bay like a venturi effect and gain power before taking us out.

Other then that I love it here.

Let me know if we are neighbors and we can go catch a beer and you can riddle my mind about the Bay Area.

Yep, that was me; the Illinois plates seem to blend in well around here. (And I could have sworn your car was a VIII from previous posts here, but I also could have sworn I saw IX badges on your trunk. I have to admit, the flex-fuel emblem has never looked quite right next to the chunky MR badge on my car.) Yours was the second Evo I've seen in Alameda since I got here.

Yep, I got a place, although you can't really tell I live here by the lack of furniture; my "home office" right now is me hunched over an end table in my office chair, but at least I have internet. I ended up on Central, a couple blocks from Webster.

Yeah, I think I'll take my chances. I'm more worried about earthquakes out here, personally.

A note for anyone else who digs this thread up later (and really, just an excuse for me to whine a little bit): storage facilities in California get very weirded out by the idea of storing vehicles, particularly inoperable ones. I stored a pickup when I first moved to Illinois, and it was pretty uneventful, so I planned on doing the same thing here: ship my (non-running) race car to CA, and store it along with the rest of my stuff for a while. Yeah, that didn't quite go as planned.

Every facility I spoke to insisted that stored vehicles either be operational and registered/insured, or be registered as "non-operational vehicles" with the CA DMV. That sounds reasonable, until you realize that the DMV won't register a vehicle brought from out-of-state until it passes inspection, which requires starting the vehicle. So, I can register it as non-operational, just as soon as I make it operational for the inspection.

I originally thought a sticking point might be flammables or something similar (and as my car has no fuel tank right now, I've neatly taken care of that problem), but no, it was purely about registration. I did find one place that didn't care about any of that, but they only provided outdoor storage, so I had them as a backup plan.

I managed to secure storage after sweet-talking a very nice facility manager and going back and forth with her regional manager a few times, who eventually saw the ridiculousness of the situation and gave the me the go-ahead after I assured him that I did, in fact, have a title for the car. (Which, so far, they've never asked to see. )

What a pain in the ***, for a car that probably isn't going to see any love for a year until my wife moves out here and we find a place with a proper garage.

Having recently sold a car, I'll tell you that the SELLER is ultimately responsible for ensuring that the car is smog legal.

If you sell someone a car (even if you have a signed copy of a bill of sale that says, 'AS IS') and it fails smog, the purchaser can legally return to the seller and ensure it passes.

To save time and the hassle of dealing with a purchaser returning, I took it and had it smogged myself.

Passing smog: GSC S2 cams

Hey all, I was wondering if anyone has ever had any issues passing a smog test with s2 cams? I've searched around the forum but haven't been able to find many straight answers.
The rough idle is what I'm worried about the most. I've seen posts here that people have fixed the idle with a tune but every youtube vid I've seen with s2's is still noticeably rough.

Post up if you have either passed or failed smog with s2's.

Thanks!

-Steve
