I've heard the same thing from a few people on EvoEmpire and NorCalEvo for a while too. Though I wonder how many just use those smog hookups? I'd imagine it could depend on the tune too.

^ Yeah, that's what I was thinking that maybe they had hookups too. lol Is NorCalEvo even still alive? Last time I checked, it was spammed to the max on almost every thread. I doubt the Mods even go on much anymore.

Me too. I know of at least two places to go for a hookup. No I will not tell anyone where though. I also want to see if my Evo can pass the smog 'cause a hookup actually takes more time and costs money compared to me just swapping my cat back into my TBE.

Everyone moved on to EvoEmpire.

OP, don’t put your car back to stock. There is no need to do that.

Just do what you have to do to pass smog. Maybe put the stock cat on to pass smog, then remove it if you want.

Just don’t drive like an a$$ and you will be fine. I think the modified exhaust law is really enforced for fart can Civics. CA has a lot of modified fart can exhaust cars on the road.

If you have a nice car like an evo that sounds good and looks you will be fine with a modified exhaust, as long as you don’t drive like an a$$. It’s actually somewhat rare to see an Evo on the road in the bay area. I only see maybe one every week or so.

A cop pulled me over for no front plate. I didn’t get a fix a ticket and the cop didn’t say anything about my loud exhaust.

Good luck with the move and don’t put your evo back to stock.

Full Function uses a Mustang dyno. Cams, intake, turboback, LICP, FMIC. Don't remember what PSI but it's on 91 octane. I guess it's pretty average.

humm forget that taking off the mods for me. Im PCSing to cali and I have an Evo and i refuse to get cali plates and do all this smog crap. Good thing is Military member are allowed to drive out of state register cars around as long as it adhers to the out of stat rules. Insome parts of new mexico there is no smog or emissions test and you can have 20% tint on all the windows! Yup! Only thing to worry about is the noise level but im not going to be racing my evo on the street. Just gona drive it to the good ol track out there. here is the info on this tho

http://dmv.ca.gov/pubs/brochures/howto/htvr9.htm

NOTE: Nonresident military personnel stationed in California or their spouses may operate their vehicles with valid out-of-state license plates from their home state or the state where the military person was last stationed.

I have to do more digging and find a reg just incase a cop tryies to say i have to get cali plates. I know one will one day!

found more info

Nonresident Military Personnel Operating a Vehicle in California
Nonresident military personnel, and both military or civilian members of NATO who are not citizens of the United States are permitted to operate a vehicle in this state with valid license plates from either:

•the individual's home state or country or
•the state or country where the individual was regularly assigned and stationed when the license plates were issued, if the following requirements are met:
1.The license plates displayed on the vehicle are valid plates issued by a foreign jurisdiction.
2.The vehicle registration and license plates are issued to the military person or spouse of the military person.
3.The vehicle registration and license plates are issued by the foreign jurisdiction where the military person was last regularly assigned and stationed for duty by military orders or a jurisdiction claimed by the nonresident military person as the permanent state of residence.
4.If the vehicle is a motor vehicle, the owner or driver has insurance.
NOTE: Military orders do not include military orders for leave, for temporary duty, or for any other assignment of any nature requiring the military person's presence outside the foreign jurisdiction where the owner was regularly assigned and stationed for duty.

This section applies to all vehicles owned by the military person or spouse except any commercial vehicle used in any business manner wherein the military person or spouse receives compensation.

Smog
Is there a nonresident military exemption from the smog inspection?

No, if the vehicle is to be registered in California, a smog inspection certification is required.

California law requires seller to smog. But this is also neg. with the buyer on price. You can give the buyer a lower sales of receipt to save them on tax and ask them to smog. I just did this with a SR5 1995 for $4000 and he wrote out $1500 as long as I smog it...it passed for $50.
