California Mod laws

Sup from the windy city...I was looking at some graduate programs in California and was wondering how I was gonna get away with keepin my EVO. I hear tons of stories of everything from loud exhaust tickets to tints and was wondering...how do you guys get away with modding your cars over there?? Any insight is much appreciated!!

The first step is to drive like a normal person. Don't give the cops a reason to pull you over. Stealth mods are preferred, keep a low profile. Many EVO owners in this area have removed the rear wing. Try to keep your car registered in your home state if possible so you don't have to deal with Cali smog checks.

it's pretty simple to stay stealth over here ex. stock frame turbo and drop in filter.

Another way to stay off the smog ****'s back is having your home address in a county that doesn't require smog checks every 2 years.

I also carry a list of smog exempt parts + carb legal paperwork for some of the more obvious parts like my air filter.

first they lower their OCTANE to 91 and add more cats to the car ,instead of runing a Higher OCT. like 95 which is cleaner, and less pollu.

^^^shouldn't have to. You leave your state plates on CHP can't really get you on a noise or smog violation cause the car isn't registered here.

Californians.. LOOK OUT

Well in California now they have a special program going where the CHP is pulling over cars deemed smog violators. I was one of the victims today. I have a turbo back Megan exhaust with the baffle out, a BOV and no cat. Basically he said he heard my BOV but its adjustable and off and said I need a baffle in my muffler. So basically I got a ticket for no front license plate, Missing/mod emissions and inadequate muffler. I have to also go to a referee and make a court appearance he said to explain to the judge 'why I'm polluting his air'. He also said that I have to take the car immediately off of the road and can not drive it. My questions real quick are isn't there a grace period to get the car corrected? I have to go to work tomorrow morning. He said if I get pulled over again for emissions its a moving violations, and the third time is a misdemeanor. And second do the referees have AWD dynos to test the smog? I have the stock diverter, the cat and the baffle so It should be slap it on and everythings cool?
