Jake,

Cams are the next logical step for both of us The issues that I have with cams are 1) I do not want to install them (solved this weekend as I found someone who has and would do mine) 2) not sure I want to move up to street mod for autox and 3) retune with Al is not high on my list (would love another option, AEM could be now that I know someone that tunes them locally but I never wanted to go standalone).

How about a good set of R compounds? I hear you can get a set for about $1k.

Jake, after talking to COBB on friday, they will just be doing base flashes with the Access port for us 03 and 04 guys. You would be better off sticking with your custom tune. Cobb will basically be providing base mail in flashes from the sounds of it.

I really wish they would come out with the Street Tuner version of the Access port for the Evo's, so that you can change the parameters of your tune anytime you want, but I guess from what Cobb told me the 03 and 04 ecu's, cannot handle that kind of sophistication. You never know though....maybe they will figure out how to do it.

Is that an Evo wing?

And your #3 is my MAIN concern Jeremy, I want to do more, but with Cobb stealing Christian and Eric, there isn't really anywhere to do any work on my car that I trust, but I bet Utah Imports could easily handle putting in the cams, so the problem is the tuning, and again, COBB kinda has that market cornered unless we get TurboTrix or Al to come here (again)... If/when I end up doing it, I may end up just sending my ECU to Al for a base-reflash, since that will be free, at least untill I decide on something else to tune the car with.

Thanks for the news Scott, that's a huge bummer though... What other Evo related COBB news have you got? Are they going to start being able to work on our cars anytime soon? And what about tuning other systems (like Christian did at Modern, aka UTEC, AEM, etc)...

And, is the only thing all of us have heard about Vishnu bad stuff? Or does their system work... I think that would be the next easiest thing next to COBB or a mail-in.

If people get Al to come back I guess I could just have him do a base-re-flash then, but that means I need to know way ahead of time so I can get cams installed just before he gets here and has time to retune me.

Obviously you can understand why I'm hesitant to do Cams next, at least there's a few other things that wouldn't need a reflash, but they're not things I want/should do next.

Jake,

Take two sips of Simmer Downnn!

A. I could install your cams, for a small fee. Don't worry I wouldn't use duct tape.

B. Sending your ECU back to Al for a base reflash would be fine. I'm running a base flash on my car. He did it for my set-up last year. Since then I've put in an intake, IC pipes, an O2 housing, and ported my manifold. The tune is still fine. It would also be a nice safe tune. If you did go that route I would also by the Buschur Intake and have Al reflash for all that Jazz.

C. Cobb will be serious player in the EVO tuning market, so triple simmer down. Since you live here in SLC you could go down and have your Christian custom tune your EVO on a reflash of the stock ECU. If you were in California or out of state you would be stuck to the Access Port tune. But I'm sure they will custom reflash your car.

Yes Cobb is too busy to change your guys oil, or spark plugs. But I'm sure you could get them to tune your EVO on the stock ECU. That's their focus... ECU tuning. And the fact they have a 05 EVO RS, a 06 EVO MR, a full EVO long block engine chilling around, and have already gathered serious data on the ECU tells me that they are going full-bore into EVO-Land.

So Simmer^3.

Thanks for that Jared, I needed a kick in the face, and a few sips of simmer down... If I'm getting an intake I'd probably go with the Injen one, but I'll look into that.

Yeah whatever, the Injen is fine I think. The intake helped out a lot on my car.

Nobody supports the Japanese ECU's it's not worth the trouble.

Jake and Jeremy are not hardcore enough for AEM. I don't think they want to spend every waking moment wondering if their tune is good/safe and if their car will start and idle. Not to mention part throttle driving. Maybe they are... I'm not - yet.

No issues what-so-ever with AEM as long as it is tuned correctly. Starting, idle and partial throttle response are all excellent. Partial throttle response is actually much better than it ever was with stock ECU.

Jake, Christian can tune your car with AEM if you want to spend the $$$. Plan on about $600. You can probably pick up a used AEM EMS for less than $1,000. I paid $800 for mine and I've seen 'em go for as little as $600 to $700.

Is it worth it? For you, I don't think so. We can discuss all the options with Christian. He will continue to do the tuning for the S2K. He has also offered to help us with installs, setup, etc. I'd prefer to have Utah Imports or someplace similar do the work; though that is your call. The advantage is there's someone to stand behind the work.

Jared,

You are right, as my car is now AEM would be overkill. Besides I have always wanted to keep my car simple and dependable. I was never on the quest for the huge amounts of power that some people want, but there is always that little piece of me that wants to get more If I get cams I will probably get a retuned flash (mail in this time) from Al. In reality, I should work on my driving for autox and track to improve my times instead of dumping more money into power mods for the car. As it sits now it seems to have plenty of power for the things I use it for.
