P.S gauges do need to be quality. They need to read right. Accepting a gauge is reading off and you know about it is NOT acceptable in my opinion. There are plenty of gauges that are cheaper and still high quality out there that you don't need to get autobeater or some no name gauge.

Gauges serve an important purpose ... and expensive ones often have features that are worth the price. The DEFIs for example with the abilty to have accurate mins, max records and complete playbacks of runs. There's also the value of external alarms.

A gauge set like the AEM Serial has the additional benefit of having multi-variable conditional alarms and complete integration with EMS and data loggers.

The comment about gauge accuracy not being important is non-sense. If a gauge is inaccurate to start with and stays just an inaccurate throughout it's life ... well, okay. Problem is that cheap gauge accuracy is often just that ... inconsistent.

For a ricer boy that just wants pretty bits in the car that move and impress ... yeah, just go for the cheap guages.

I dont think the weather will be a problem for me because I lived in Wisconsin for over year back then.

How are the in Utah? are they like the LAPD?

I'm moving to Vernal City, I been there once and the road are ****ty bigtime.

VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION:

Should I drive my car form LA to Utah? according to Mapquest it is almost 12 hours drive and 783 miles. Or should I have it shipped to my new destination?

you should be fine driving it took me about 9 hours from park city to la so 12 hours to vernal sounds about right. why are you moving to vernal? plus if you drive you can stop and have a fun night in vegas on the way

Why are you moving to Vernal? I drove my evo back from Santa Monica. It was long and sucked with out cruise control. At least I had a radio... uh ficker.

Hey, we are free to disagree. Most gages are accurate and consistent to themselves and a quality gage is just typically more accurate in an absolute sense. If you want to talk absolute though, you better start referencing NIST standards and realistic tolerances.

But I could care less if I'm seeing 85 or 86 PSI of oil pressure. I just want to know when it drops to dangerous levels. Same goes for boost, I could careless if it's 25PSI or 20 PSI. Provided I tuned the car for where the needle is saying it's running, that's good enough for me.

Personally, I'd put the money into a Data Acquisition setup over the DEFIs any day of the week. The Defi playback feature isn't too sweet IMO. The AEM datastream gage, ok, $300 for a single reading/warning universal gage is worth it. I'd only buy one though and just have it setup for warnings.

But hey, sorry to take it back to your regularly scheduled program.
PS, I calibrate electronic equipment for my toy money, I've tested and calibrated LOTS of electronic and mechanical gages; pressure, voltage, current, thermocouples, RTDs, strain, you name it, I've probably calibrated it at one time or another.

Okay, now that the gauge wars are over, Zeitronix owns all!!!

Munoa- you are just jealous. I spent 10 hours of pure quality time, bonding with my RS without any distraction. I didn't think it was long or sucked. You probly listened to too much Justin Timberlake (dont lie, i saw the cd at your house!!!).

The beauty is, once i got back the break-in was OVER!!!!

My kidneys hurt just thinking about diving the car that far.

Vernal = big money... provided you know how to cost effectively get oil out of shell sands.

yeah, i've been launching my car off the limiter at each stop light i come to. i love the smell of burnt clutch.

j/k, i baby the crap out of my car, but it still gives me really crappy gas mileage. i guess that's what i get for being a turncoat on the honda camp.
