Dynoed some works stuff.

Went to Harman Motive Today for a baseline. Was hoping for around 300WHP, but didn't even come close. According to works with my mods I should have 340hp, so around 300whp, so where is my missing 30WHP? I know the cat is robbing me some power, but 30whp?

Mods as follows.

Buschur Catback
Works 3inch downpipe
Hiflo Cat
works 269 cams
works throttlebody
titanium retainers + springs
works p2 flash 8K redline
HKS drop in filter
MR Blow of Valve

boost 20psi, 91 octane

Something doesn't seem right. Your graph is pretty jaggity. Have you done an intake leak test?

What is your vacuum reading at idle? I just want to make sure your cams and timing belt have been installed correctly.

Is your P2 up to date and flashed for some of the mods you have.

Your peak torque is pretty good. I believe most guys making 270-280whp usually see about 250-260 peak torque and that's with 93 or higher octane.

Your chart does look little strange since P2 should have smoothed the power curve towards the higher rpm. I think you might have some small problem. It could be boost leak, MR BOV (some have experienced issues with it), bad spark plug, bad gas or the dyno was not well tuned?. Off course different dyno's will always have different numbers from 10-20whp I believe.
Did Harman dyno other Evo's. This would be the best way to see how your car is compare to other Evo's.

Well, if you install a test pipe, you'll see about 10whp more. Hopefully you'll get some more info about the jagged lines.

Good luck.

First off I’m not sure what’s suppose to be wrong, you are not going to make 300whp even if you did hit the magic 340 number. With the percentage of HP used up through the drive train you should be around 280-283whp, you give up around 57HP just to make everything move.

Secondly, and this is the part I love, what type of dyno did you test on? Dynos are not created equal, unless you did a baseline on the car before you made any changes your dyno run is just FYI. Different brands of dynos report different numbers. There is also no national standard (like weights and measures with public scales and gas pumps) to insure that the industry, across the nation, is reading and reporting the same information.

The best you can do is record the percentage of improvement you’ve made, that’s it! Now, with that said, I really don’t think there is a problem. You may have a minor problem as others have mentioned, but you’re not missing 30 HP, the engine and drive train used it!

to me it seems the dyno could read ultra low, it could be one which would baseline an evo around 200whp.

Torque greater than HP is wierd. Also Cat is robing about 15 HP. I dyno tested to prove this.

ok

OK, to illustrate, here is what a stock evo puts down on harman dyno. They have a Dynojet btw. So i've gained about 35WHP, seems a bit low for the mods. Cams I hope were installed properly, Works installed them, they also retuned the P2 flash after they installed them and the throttlebody.

With a smoothing of 0 it will always look jaggity.

You can't seriously compare your car to what someone elses car did on some other places dyno.

Same dyno, same day, different evos will vary as much as 20hp. Different dyno's, even if they are the same brand, further muddy the water. With no real "before" chart, your "after" chart means nothing.

I see that you are using a correction factor. I thought when people post dyno sheets they are supposed to be uncorrected numbers.

A year ago I contacted Dave when he was still with Works and asked about that drop in torque at 4k that seems to be an earmark on Works tuned cars. Beyond that I can see nothing that bothers me about your chart. You can to do some additional tunning to take advantage of those cams (a 10.5 hot side) and you might find and correct a glitch or two somewhere like a vacuum leak or some other little thing (that is what tunning is all about). Did you discuss this with the guys at Works before you posted to this forum, they are customer friendly and really know thier products.

The dynomometer is a great tool for resolving relative facts about real time dynamics. As for what your have really gained, it is just as many write on these boards, it is impossible to evaluate gains based on an after chart alone. To save money and give me the performance facts I do an all out run through 3rd gear. There is a lot to be learned about a cars power output by observing it's 60 to 90 acceleration time. This simple before and after test is easy for most any level driver to do consistently, and is real world. You can do this at any drag strip.

the drop in torque is because of how they control boost, there is a momentary boost spike to 23psi, then it drops to 17psi and builds up to 20 and stays there.

I got my car dynoed at Harman Motive also, it made 310whp on 91 Pump gas and it made 350whp on 96-97 Gas. It was a blend of 5 Gallons of Race gas and 1 Gallon on 91 Pump Gas

91 Pump Gas - 20psi to redline

96-97 Gas Mix - 23.5psi to redline tapering to 21.5psi

Car was tuned via UTEC on a 4wd Dyno

Here are my mods:

1. Full Turbo Back 3inch Exhaust
2. Cone Filter
3. Intercooler Pipings
4. Larger Intercooler
5. 660cc Injectors
6. 255lph Fuel Pump
7. HKS 264 272 Cams
8. HkS Camgears
9. MBC
10. UTEC
