Piggyback Maps
So I'm getting ready to make the jump, I've been reading the forums about tuning and I think I'm ready for it. I've found a used V2 piggy but its for an auto RA. Is it still compatible with a manual? I didn't want to PM ROCK cause I've seen his posts about how he's not a fan of giving support for used parts.
I know the preset tune would be no good for my car, but I'm going to get a wideband at the same time I buy this. Has anyone done this?

the ecu's are different, so it's not just the map.
what posts are you talking about? ROCK will help anyone with his products, used or otherwise. that's what good vendors do
yeah, i've personally pm'd him in the past, you just have to mail the piggy back plus $50 bucks to them and they'll reflash it for a 5spd RA.
Also the base tune is very conservative in that it can work "safely" with cars that aren't modded halfway to hell. The base tune on the piggy with the auto map on it will not work with a 5spd if that's what you were talking about and vice versa.

so there is no difference in the ECM and PCM, just tranny specific mapping? I'd check the auto part of my cd, but I don't care all that much
I guess it makes sense either way, but I would have thought you'd just have people specify when ordering instead of offering two versions...

Thanks. I do what I can. Often used piggy guys have lots of issues. I can only do what I can do on PMs. Meantime I do help. FOr example a v2 piggy is not for the RA????? You may have a compatibility issue beyond the the auto/manualk issue. Make sure it is for the RA and not for the OZ/ES before you buy it. Meantime ,if you are good and have a good wideband like Zeitronix, you can tune it custom to your car but you gotta make sure it is for your model.

There are no issues except there are many versions of piggy and people overlook it like you or they send money for the used one. When they get it someone could have messed up the tune or tried to overwrite it. Plus they get no instructions. By then it is paid for and you are stilli in the unknown about the condition of this as it relates to software. Used is fine just do your homework, otherwise just buy new.

+1. from my understanding you guys have released multiple hardware and map revisions of the RA version.
if you have a wideband and the knowledge (take a look at the threads I've created along with this one, there's a lot of learning going on there
) to tune your car it's a fairly basic trial and error process to fine tune a map from stock 10's. building a map from scratch, now that's a different story
although on a dyno (again, proper equipment is paramount) it's quite a bit more straightforward.

RA hardware was always the same. OZ hardware was changed at one point but all have had revisions in software. If we find a way toi improve product we have done it. Gets a little dicey buying used that way.

I thought there were two versions for the RA, the only difference being where you tapped in for RPM input.
The only reason I'm not agreeing with you is that I bought a used piggy from someone a few years ago, and the instructions that were on your site didn't work. I had an old version that needed to tap into a different wire for the engine rpm signal. Once I did that, it worked fine.

same here. you were the one who referred me to Gabe to figure out what the problem was, Rob
Gabe still had a 1st gen installation sheet to tell me what to do.
he was the one who got the ball rolling on the RA in first place, was he not?
