Not to thread jack but does anyone know what a bad wheel bearing sounds like on our cars. I get a strange clunking while driving straight or turning left but most the time goes away on right turns.

When I accelerate the sound is louder and faster. I think that is the clutch but I don't know about transmissions.

PLEASE HELP
Had this exact problem back in December on my '04. It turned out to be input shaft bearing, not a TOB. Replaced the trans, I didn't want to dick with a rebuild.
$1600 installed for a used one, my original lasted 103k miles though.
Have a shop or trusted mechanic take a look.

Maybe you can drivetrain warranty it?

lol, input shaft bearing is so easy to replace...

souless and kayouu, it's most likely a wheel bearing...i have a wheel bearing on my 03 ES that's going the way of old yeller...just need some free time to do it...my put my stock springs on the ES, appearantly they fit, and drop it an inch...lol, we'll see...

the key is time...drop the transmission, open it up, remove shafts, pull the bearing off, press new one on, the problem is if you don't have the tools or the time...but if you pay a mechanic for labour, you'll pay for the car 3 times by the time the car has served it's purpose...

i have done a complete head rebuild, timing belt, water pump, rebuilt transmission with LSD, replaced clutch, replace power steering pump, alternator, brakes, suspension...etc...i have not yet encountered a job i could not complete with basic and improvised tools...

will see, i will try to get like a week off, because working 12 hour a day from 6pm to 6am is hard

btw, did you know the part number for the input shaft bearing? Just in case, but hopefully is not that.

THIS. If you have some knowledge, and the ability to follow instructions/manuals you'll be good provided you have the tools and space to take on a project.

That there in bold was one luxury I didn't have when mine went bad (in retrospect, it was probably going bad for awhile). Just said eff it and had a shop replace the whole damn thing. Could have done it myself I'm sure, but was in no mood to burn vacation days and lay on my back in my cold garage for a couple days.
Car was in the shop 2 days. Paid for it, drove away. Soup.
