so i called my friend whos advice was "dont touch it til i get there, unless you are going to use a magnet to find that nut."
i havent found that nut yet, but i need to find a clean container for all that oil.
ive check over that engine so many times... if its in the head, its invisible now.

This thread has turned comical.......Joho I advise you to step away from your car and let your mechanically inclined buddy finish the job.
And never touch a torque wrench again!
j/k man.....but seriously..... reading torque specs > you

Maaaaaan. This really shouldn't have been difficult at all. I know for a fact that the dealership would give you the procedure for adjusting the valves. The service manuals that you can get are not always correct. I can see the problem with the unmarked pulley. You still could have just pulled the #1 plug and felt for TDC then checked to see which rockers were loose. The mivec tolerences actually tend to tighten up over time. I check all of the valves and if they are a little stiff (feeler guage pull) Don't even bother. Same if they are a tiny bit loose. A five pound pull is industry standard for using a feeler guage. Just try rocking the arm with the guage in place. Good luck! Next time phone the dealership. If they won't help phone the next dealership and complain about what poor service yours has given you! Someone will help.........
