Better use a foot pound wrench for that. I'm talking about an IN/LB torque wrench I've never seen one myself.

I know a guy, it's usually the hardcore enthusiasts who own them. I have never had the need, of course I don't use my ft-lb torque wrench nearly as much as I should so maybe I have had the need but never cared

Exclamation This will finally get finished tonight.

just so everyone knows whats up and doesnt think this is a joke thread these days.

tonight after work, probably around 5 est.
after purchasing a crate of royal purple synthetic (5w 30 ?[or is it 10?])
and the gasket for the oil pan as well as a container to remove this oil into.
im going to filter the oil into a pan and if the nut does not come out with the oil,
I'll try to fish it out with an industrial magnet.
that doesnt work, ill remove the oil pan, see if it is in the screen or pan.

it should be in there. (if not, what should i do?)
a friend will lend me a torque wrench so that i can get this valve lash adjustment done finally.

ill heat the engine up and follow the all data directions that fireman posted up.

im 100% confident now that i have all the right tools i will get this job done,
and the term "bolt on boy" will stop ringing in my ears...

and driving an 1998 VW Golf, 2.Slow 8v engine, with no ac is a DAMN good motivator to get your car back on the road.

5w20, or 5w30. it's a preference. Mitsu says 20 for gas mileage. being in buffalo you should stick with a lighter cold weight.

If you're going to a parts store, pick up something similar to this:

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=94614

I have something like this that saved me countless minutes fetching dropped parts. You might be able to fit it in the oil drain hole and fish around. It'll stick to the pan but you can overpower it and it'll grab any loose metallic parts hanging around. You'll probably find it handy in the future, like retreiving that valvecover bolts sitting on the control arm.

so i can have a back up plan of sorts,
incase the nut is damaged,
i was looking to get a back up.
NAPA doesnt have em, neither does Car Quest. And when i got to the stealership, of course their parts division closes at 5... and i work til then, cause being open past 5 would be convenient for me.

I called the dealer and they stated that i need a VIN number to look up any parts.
<-- this is me.

since my car is at home, and i am at work,
with other car, i have no access to such said vin.
would anyone be willing to help me out on how i can
get either the part number or a vin for a car the same make year and model as my car?
i would really appreciate it.
