that's worrying me too, everything, and I mean everything, has pointed to this procedure being done with the engine hot. Even good ol' common sense tells me that.

ok just got off the phone with dealership #2.

just wanna say EFF YOU RAY LAKS MITSUBISHI!

the adjustment has to be done hot.

the service manager checked with a tech to make sure when i called,
and the tech laughed when he asked if it has to be done hot or cold!
he told him never adjust a lash when its cold.

so i have to still wait for the parts from ray laks,
but i will definitely be going to dan georger mitsubishi on thursday or friday to get the lash adjusted.

oh! and one more thing!
It doesnt have to be kept overnight, and its only one service hour! at 84$
WOO!

yeah, but IIRC this is just a nut right? the threaded part is the adjustment part, the nut goes on the thread and locks it down right? I don't know, it's been over 20k miles for me

Im confused about valve lash adjust for a few reasons.

1). The service checklist says for the 18,000 mile service:

Check and Adjust Valve Lash (Not required on engines with autolash adjusters; Grandis 2.4 MIVEC, Outlander 2.4 MIVEC)

- thats our engine. It says valve lash is not needed in the service manual!?

2). I took my car to my local garage to ask them to take a look at the engine to make sure it "sounded" right... and when I asked them about valve lash, they too said its got hydraulic lash adjusters which dont need adjusting!

So Im confused... there are two topics on here of people adjusting their valve lash - and I think mine needs to be done, as my engine isnt too quiet...

Anyone shed light on this? I may be good at bolting stuff together and figuring out what will work with the car, but I am not an engine expert!

did they remove the valve cover? what did you engineer buddy say? the grandis and outlander are different vehicles with the same engine, maybe they change more than a couple of things also, what year is your motor?

we are supposed to have a manually adjusted valve lash system, you can tell by what the top of the rocker arms look like. see the phililps head screw spot?(looks like a flathead in this pic, but in myz's writeup you can see it clearly)

hey dont feel bad,
im a bolt on boy too *glares at dan*

I dont know what its all about either,
all i know is i noticed a decrease in power since i purchased the car,
i figured it needed to be done,
and thats how this all got started for me.

if you think it needs to be done, just ask the techs at mitsu to adjust it...
dont risk what i did, unless you have someone looking over your shoulder and have all the right tools...
