Question Question about K&N air filter..

So, I got myself one of those, and so far so good, engine actually sounds different than with the OEM filter.

One thing though I was wondering about if anyone else who uses these in the ralliart.. do you guys have an odd vibration sound coming from the airfilter box when flooring it around 2200 to 2500 rpms in 3rd, 4th, 5th gear?

Sounds odd, definitely like a vibration, and it only happens with the engine under load.

I was thinking maybe its not seated properly, gonna have to check that tomorrow.

Did not have the problem with my 04 RA. With my 06, however, it did it with OEM filter, K&N, and RRM. Have not figured it out yet.

yeah sounds like you got something loose in there.

most people will let you know when you get an aftermarket filter, you can hear a difference when the mivec engages, but it definitely sounds like you got something loose

^ yea definitely sounds different through all rpm ranges, and not in a bad way lol. except for that annoying bit.

My bet is that it's completely unrelated to your airbox and what you're really hearing is the flexpipe on the exhaust rattling. Our exhaust resonates the worst in that RPM range, and the stock flexpipe is a POS, so it gets noisy as it ages.

That is also the point where he messed with the airbox to put the new filter in. When you move things that are used to not being moved, especially older parts, they tend to come apart.

Not necessarily. When you put a new part in, you tend to pay more attention to what your car is doing as you try to notice a difference. If it's the flex pipe, then you probably just never noticed it before.

I think its directly related to the weight of the K&N filter as its quite a bit heavier.
i'd love to put it on a dyno with the hood open and have it WOT through 2000 rpms to see the shaking heh.

It's just somewhat annoying to hear. Sounds like.. a ricer.
