is your roommate's 3 the 2.0 or 2.3 liter?
Once I drove the Ralliart there was no need I felt to drive the Mazda 3. I had a feeling that the 3 wouldn't have the more powerful engine or better handling suspension or brakes.
Mazda has trouble with the brakes on the 3's. Big grooves getting worn into the rotors and the rear wheels were showing an obscene amount of brake dust on the wheels, but not the front ones. Owners of the 3 told me they had to clean there back wheels every other day to keep the brake dust off of them. The whole problem with the brakes is another reason I stayed away from the 3.

Celica Gts Vs Ralliart
i raced my friends celica gts today he had me from the begining to end do ralliart really suck with out launching ?? we both didnt peel off , can i beat him at the begining if i launch at 3500 rpm just want to know? thank you
uh, Stock celica GTS has 180hp 130trq, i dont think you kept up with him at his top end, that vvtl-i is a lot more advanced and goes much higher then you mivec in order to keep up through out, your trq is equal to your hp on your car but i seriously doubt you were hitting peak trq through out, nor making that much of a difference to keep up
the other factor is that if the celica was a 6 speed, the gear ratio is set up so he can have his second cam spinning at all times depending how he shifts the vvtl-i

Well here's one more thing your not taking into consideration. His clutch system is more direct then ours. Because our clutch is designed for more of an everyday NON aggressive use (Read: Our clutchline has a resevoir that makes the clutch engage slower). This will be a factor too...so to those who are a little less technical...this means that when you change gears on a quick change you are not putting all the power down right away...but the celica is.
I used to drive a Celica GTS. It has a long 1st gear. You don't leave it till you're at like 40mph, and by the time you're done with 2nd, you're at ~65, and haven't left that 2nd cam. That's stock. A good driver will have the car running right around 15 flat in the quarter. So that's what you're up against.
Depends on how you launch. The launch is important since the Celica will blow by you when his 180HP comes in.
As for the guy who said Celicas are way lighter, I doubt it. An RSX is only 100lbs lighter than the RA. But I also haven't looked at numbers.

its been a while since i have posted anything but i have to say something. the GT-S weighs 2560lbs. and it costs almost $25k. and does a 1/4 mile in 15.4 seconds. the ralliart weighs 2843lbs. and it costs almost $18k. and does a 1/4 mile in 15.7 seconds. so unless droping the clutch at about 3000rpm means you can cut 3/10 off a second then yes.
