I got 31.5mpg back in December on our crappy winter formula gas. I'm sure I could get higher in the summer, especially if I can set the cruise at 60-65 and resist the urge to go faster.

This makes me wonder what mileage our car is capable of in top gear at 40mph constant speed with no stopping or a/c or anything.

As long as your easy on the throttle you can get pretty good mileage. the best ive gotten is 560 km's to the tank, and i was taking it easy on the way down to see the inlaws this summer. same trip, i alsogot my worst milage ever tooo its all about staying out of mivec!!

Wow, 560 km on a tank is huge. That's about 348 miles. I'm in the midst of doing a "drive like a wuss" tank to see what my mileage after 6000kms on odometer. Driving this way is frustrating!

yeah, I can't stand driving like that either, but it does pay off for long trips. You can never save more than a 1/2 hour on a three hour trip without exceeding 20mph over the limit, so I try to either do more than 20mph over or just cruise. I got 32 mpg in a three hour trip in Jan this year. We don't have a winter gas mix here

My worst mpg was after I installed the pulley and was "teaching" the ecu. I got around 15mpg on that tank.

16 mpg?! What are you doing to your car man! My Sportback LS (with the same 2.4 engine) and a 4 spd auto hasn't gotten less then 22 mpg city and I've seen 27 on the highway at 75 mph cruise. I live in Pittsburgh, my car has 33k on it. I use synthetic oil and ATF but I doubt it makes that big (if any) of a difference. Car is bone stock. I mean, the window sticker was 22 city/ 28 highway, so I am happy. I use my car for business, so I wish it got over 30 at 75 mph, but oh well.

Winter gas has some different additives to help the gas perform better. Someone with more of a clue can probably tell you what. But making the gasoline perform better has a slight effect on the car, but it's nothing major. A reduction in mpg is all you really see.

Tips? I don't know how you drive, but it certainly isn't for economy. Try accelerating more moderately, coasting up to lights and stop signs (rather then last minute braking) etc. There is a chance something is wrong with your car, but check-up on your driving habits.

"winter" gas just has gas line antifreeze(moisture eliminator) in it. At least around here that's all that it seems to be.

I got around 210mpg to 250mpg per full tank in my RA Sportback!!!

Hmmm...maybe because I need to go up a mountain highway everyday to work (around 14.5 miles each way) have something to do about those freaking horrible gas mileage numbers! Darn

(And I try to keep the RPM's around 2,200-2,500 and the speed below 65mph...but sometimes I feel the urge to hear the Mivec working! )

I don't have the sportback, but I get about the same mileage. I've got a heavy foot though...

SOmething must deff be wrong with my foot, cause i swear on everything, the most i have ever seen was 230 on a full tank, all highway on my drive from NY to FL. Total trip was bout 4-5 fill ups to get down there. But on my regular driving which is almost never highway, i dont ever see better then 180 miles on a full tank
