Because they're inferior compared to the TC-SST type systems. They're no better than a damn torque converter.

Tru enuff but they are gaining popularity and gettin less expensive to produce. I think it will stay around for the regular everyday vehicles and the twin clutches will be used for the performance type cars.

I'm pretty sure common CVTs still use torque converters.

I've had a new gen nissan altima rental car quite a few times. I like the CVT. It does feel like a slipping clutch, but it allows for smooth and responsive power delivery. I've also found that in manumatic mode, it's able to "shift" into various ratios instantaneously. There's no reason why they can't drop the torque converter, and go with some electronically controlled clutch. The major downfall of all CVT designs I've ever seen, is the fact that they rely heavily on friction to create/maintain it's "gearing" ratios. So, there is a proportional loss of energy - energy that could have been used to do real work.

"Leonardo DaVinci sketched the first CVT in 1490. "

The CVT with paddles is pretty nice but it definitely is mushy and lags at the shifts. The TC-SST is much more crisp. I would prefer SST to CVT anytime.

It seems very possible that it's an oiling (not flowing oil sufficiently), or oil contamination issue. Those pictures were nasty, and much worse than the typical spun bearing.

I hope this gets sorted out soon.

A few months back, it appeared that the engine in the 09 wrx had a decent amount of different part numbers than the sti. I believe that info was before they actually released the car, so that might be incorrect.

It says STY, how is that relevant? Anyways, STIs don't appear to be affected by the issue.

Amby, i almost got the 08 STI. I got offer for a VERY good deal. By my friend Weasel 555. / Andy/ You might know him.

But so much problem with them , actually i got scared even the thought i almost got one of them.
I dont know whats going on in the Subi side , but is pretty bad.

I have to say untill 08 i do love the STI and i always thought the Evo and the STI is kind a equal. Fact i love the hach design a lot. Honestly not anymore.
Looks to me the 09 is not better either.

So they need to do heck of a job to gain they position back. And one year will not do it. Even if they come back this decade best car.
So untill 2011 i'm defenietly not intersted about the subi anymore.
so many others.
