Car and Driver Comparo is out
Hmmm. I'm not interested in the WRX so according to you I shouldn't post in this thread but you also aren't interested in the WRX yet you are free to post? Maybe you need to take your own advice but IMO your advice sucks so maybe listen to me and others...
I've posted the WRX engine problem in the past but I don't believe I have even brought in a that up in a while (you have to go back a while in this thread) with the exception of using as the reason it's no longer on my shopping list today. It's pretty well known now and old news.

Define "old news?" You say you're not interested in the WRX, so what's the point of posting in a Subaru forum? To troll?
I was at Detroit today, NAIAS, and Mitsu was there. Probably just a local dealer. One Lancer GTS, no RA, no EVO and a bunch of their other cars and SUV's, none of which I had any interest.
The show was dead, I have been to at least 8 others. Worst I have ever seen. Bad displays, no crowd at all, no interesting product, no enthusiasm. The Challenger and Camaro where the ONLY cars where there was a line. I hopped right in the ZR1 and the CTS-V.
There were two high school kids at the Subie display and that was it.
Only workers at the Mitsu stand.

My concern for the future of MMOA, and my logical hesitation at buying an RA (a car I've been wanting to buy for a good 2 years now) caused by the closing of a HUGE dealership in my area, somehow made that guy upset
...yet he's looking at buying an STI, but is posting smack about the WRX in non-STI related threads on NASIOC, and smack about Subaru's on here?
What an enigma...

How so, it's AWD, turbo, heavy and expensive, it's nothing like the Civic of lore that was FWD, NA, light and dirt cheap. If anything is going to be the new Civic it's the Cobalt.
If you guys could have seen the floor at Detroit, there is little interest in any cars. If you do not have a car below 25k, I think you are going to have a tough sell. That seems to be about where the average American can budget for a car. That still leaves you about 400-500 payments. Pretty steep when most peoples houses have dropped like a rock and little equity left for cushion. Its OK for you guys that live at home, but it is tough to pull the trigger on anything right now. I make a good buck and run my own business, but I am not foolish with my money.
All car companies are going to have to gut their lineups quickly to be able to stay competitive.
Amby, I agree, the SS is a steal for what you get. I had one at 21k OTD but just could not do it. Too much depreciation, I knew I would not be keeping it for the long haul, as I would get bored with it. Better to wait a year and pick one up used IMO. Probably be low teens by then. Still not liking the Chevy overall, just a good deal on one.
The RA is really close to a great car. I think the EVO is in trouble. Mitsu could up the performance of the RA, when they jettison the EVO. Keep the price similar and they would do a lot more volume. Its still a small niche car.
We have dealers around here that have been sitting on Evo's for 8-9 months, and they have not budged on price. I don't get it. Same for the STI. I think the value is gone for those cars. Good cars, just getting into a price range that is hard to justify for anyone but the hard core enthusiasts, and it appears they are few and far between. I mean, you can get Audi, BMW etc. for the prices they ask. For those who are into labels, those brands have prestige. Mitsu and SUBIE do NOT. Its a tough sell. They need to be cheaper and by quite a bit IMO.

I'd prefer to think the wrx's and with some respects the RA to be same sort of cult following that the 5.0 mustangs had in the nineties. Easy and cheap to mod with good response to mods. The cobalt SS can be lumped in there too.
Civic would be a bad comparison, if you want a new car with the same sort of "fun factor" as the older civics get a Honda fit or Scion.

I have posted in the thread because I was initially interested in the WRX265 as it is in Canada as it can be had for a fair price. Of course I'm not now but I still frequent the thread out of interest which I believe isn't a big deal. That post was a reply to dboz as you can see because I knew he was looking at the Ralliart and now has put his plans of a WRX on hold it wasn't talking smack at all.
It appears you are the one that has his panties up in a bunch searching me out on other forums like an estalker lol.

I actually knew exactly where to go...right in the '09 WRX problems thread. BINGO!

Mitsubishi COULD leave NA...just as the second largest
dealership on the west coast, my dealership has left. Why does this statement upset you? My panties ARE up in a bunch because I want to buy a damn RA!!!!

The RA has been out for what, a year? I hardly think it's appropriate to call it a cult car when at the moment only a handful of people have it. The 5.0 Mustang was popular because it was cheap, easy to mod, reliable and fast as ***** in drag form. Unfortunately the WRX and RA don't have these advantages. They're not cheap to buy, own or mod, in at least the RA's case there isn't a lot of mods out there, reliability isn't known, especially in modded form and I don't think I'd put them in the same speed category as the Mustang. They can be fast, but it's pricey. The Civic rose to the level it is now because you could buy one for 5000$, spend 10000$ on mods and start eating cars that cost 2, 3 or 4 times as much without even trying.
