The R/A and Evo X use a map sensor?

How come Mitsu wouldn't run the engine leaner from the factory? Emissions?

4g63's have run map sensors since 1989 as a 1990 model.

My '91 (or was it 92?) Eagle Talon TSi used a mass airflow sensor. Did it have a map sensor as well?

I was always under the impression that you only really needed one or the other.

1G DSMs did not have a MAP sensor, 2Gs used an MDP sensor on the intake manifold which did not read positive pressure.

So this brings up the question: Does the EvoX, and R/A have a MAS?

Don't they? Looking at the Evo X map sensor threads, it should be the sensor that's on the intake manifold.

1G DSM's used a crappy MAF and 2G DSM's used the more capable MAF from the 3000GT.

Yes, I have an X MAS sitting in my garage, was gonna try to make it work on a DSM. The X uses a much better hotwire style sensor than the previous DSM sensors.

1G MAFs were Karmann sensors, small restrictive passage but you could hack them to flow alot more. I went 12.1 on a hacked 1G MAF with a stock turbo. People have gone 10s on them. The 2G MAF is physically only slightly larger in terms of flow than a hacked 1G, but it's metering capability is higher. It'll work up to about 50 lb/min without missing counts. People have also been swapping EVO MAFs into DSMs lately. We ran one on a friend's car, saw 63 lb/min without any erratic readings.

All factory turbo cars run rich as ***** so they don't blow up in warranty.

Most newer turbo cars have both map and maf for further precision. Evo and R/A do

I remember hacking out the honeycomb from the MAF on my 1G... Though the car was so screwed in the first place, I don't remember if it made it any better or worse.

That's what I figured.

Does the RalliART run rich? I don't see how burning extra fuel would help the engine not blow up.
