Considering a 2010 Ralliart or 2010 WRX
GTI has an upscale interior, but the OP said he was looking for an AWD platform. I don't know about the tunability and mod potential of the GTI's powertrain, but in stock form... it is also a great choice, considering it won multiple awards. Car & Driver has a new article pitting it against a MazdaSpeed3, and the GTi won as the overall better car. Plus, it's got decent fuel economy (22/31?) for a turbo.
With the same tires, the RAs slalom time improved to significantly higher than the WRX. The only other stock head-to-head run was Dsport's review where someone left off a vacuum hose on the RA, so it was down somewhere between 50-70 whp (depending on whose dyno you use) from its stock trim.
As for the comment about insurance. Same driver, same location, same insurance coverage, same insurance provider, new RA from older WRX = $20 less per month in insurance. Can't speak for the insurance on a V6 Camaro.
+1 I'm out. / thread

Here are the numbers
2009 WRX
Skid pad- 0.87 G
Slalom- 68.5 MPH
Braking (from 60 MPH)- 107 ft
2009 Ralliart
Old tires
Skid pad- 0.8 G
Slalom- 65.6 MPH
Braking- 127 ft
New tires
Skid pad- 0.82 G
Slalom- 69.3 MPH
Braking- 120 ft

It's important to take into account that the tires used on the Ralliart (Bridgestone RE050s) are in a higher performance category than the tires used on the WRX, at least according to Tirerack. What would happen if we gave both cars the same tires? The significant difference you speak of is less than 1 MPH, what does that say about the 3 MPH difference in stock trim? Or the 20 ft difference in braking? The 0.7 G difference at the skid pad?
As you can see though, the cars are very similar, we're not talking about a Ferrari against a Civic. I doubt you would notice any performance difference unless you were tracking the car and doing some serious datalogging.

K&N filters are oiled correct? The oil can cause issues with the MAF and it's something you can actually see when datalogging the car. Try to find a filter that isn't oiled if you simply must upgrade it.
I have no desire for that, if it gets out of hand, I'll just delete my damn posts and return to my OT lair. I had hoped that given the responses up to now, we could ignore the fanboy crap that brings down other threads when a Subaru gets compared to a Mitsubishi.
I heard good things about the green filters.. personally I don't want a filter that you can hold up and see through... and as mentioned... the oil can cause a problem. The HKS filters seem to be nice, the works filters are pricey, but I had one in my old RS and it is top notch quality.
There's no real reason to replace the filter anyways, the stocker seems to be really well designed from the factory and an aftermarket unit is just a noise maker. I've yet to see conclusive proof that they make power.
Although I know the Ralliart is likely much heavier than the WRX... 107 ft stop is pretty damn good... I don't think even the X does that with the Brembo's... although brake fade is not likely going to be an issue as fast.
Just checked the Mitsu website...
2009 Lancers get 0% APR for 48 months or $2,000 cash back
2010 Lancers: sedans get 0% APR for 36 months, Sportbacks get 0% APR for 48 months
These are awesome factory incentives, combine that with fact Mitsu dealers are desperate... it should be really easy to get a Ralliart for a big discount and no interest monthly payments, assuming your credit is good... or if you have cash to get an 09 for cheap.

IMO, the RA looks much better, and is better with aftermarket, I've heard gains in power are easier, but if you plan to keep it stock, and don't mind the look of the Subi, get it, and test drive both, good luck!

The power gains are about equal for the two cars, the notion that Subarus don't make power with mods is a myth.
