You might think so, but, AFAIK, no one has done it yet. It would be interesting though, wouldn't it?

I am not so sure that FP would even cut this housing for their turbine wheel. I kinda remember reading that FP found this aftermarket casting to be not up to their standards. Maybe I am mistaken though.

Definitely not up to fp standards. I talked a long while with Robert about this piece a few times on the phone about why my fp 71 hat failed.

He probably wouldn't mount this in his vice.

but do you really think the casting was the issue OR maybe he didn't want to promote it since all of his turbo's are fitted with a "proven" hotside. unfortunately i have a feeling we'll never know since this thread was started back in 2010 and no one ever really tested it out. I personally thinkin it would have decent gains on something like a red or black on high boost, but thats just me.

I would think that FP would incorporate it into their turbos if it was a sound material and design.

We will not use it and we will not machine it to be used with one of our turbos.

Like all chinese cast units there are some major design flaws and the material is ALWAYS sub par.

I still have mine albeit cut in half. Between that and an oem housing they cut way differently with a band saw

i have one and it rocks

dont knock it till you try it....Ive had an 11.5 kinugawa turbo for about a month now.
it was 900 bucks and this turbo is fast and make excellent power and spools fast.
on a stock cat at 28 psi im hitting 472 peak hp with an 11.5 ported and polished hot side, a buillet wheel, anti surge housing and once i get a better wg to hold 30 ill go over 500.
so im sold and the products excellent...every mechanic who has seen this turbo lover it and says it has good build quality.
the compressor housing and hotside are mitsubishi parts, it has the Mitsubishi stamp on it...so
at 900 in can buy 2,5 fps....hummmm
time will tell i guess.

The hot side is definitely NOT a Mitsubishi part. They copied every thing about a Mitsubishi part. The compressor cover I have no experience with.

CLEARLY HAS THE MARKS AND MITSUBISHI TRI STAR....AND IT DONT MATTER IT GOES FAST AND AT 1/3 THE PRICE.
AND 472 ARE GOOD NUMBERS.
NOT TO SAY ONE TURBOS BETTER THE THE OTHER JUST THIS IS A VERY GOOD IF NOT GREAT PURCHASE AT AN EXTREEMLY REASONABLE PRICE.
BY WHY PAY MORE? OR FINE PAY MORE!
i LIKE WHAT I BOUGHT AND IT WORKS REALLY WELL.

Take your flame suit off, I'm not saying its junk. I'm saying that it is 100% not a MHI part regardless of the casting marks.

I could tell easily with my saw that the kinugawa one cut different than the MHI cast stainless piece. Indicating they were not of similar material. I dropped the ball on having them analyzed.

One is f5 and one claims to be an3. The real an3 is rather unobtainium

AAAAAAAAAAAAND this is why we don't use Chinese housings.

They're too thin this hole was caused by removing about 4MM of material to make room for the larger turbine wheels we use in our Red/Blacks.

What does that mean for you? Two things really one is that if the turbine wheel ejects part of it is coming through the housing. The other is that if you happen to run high EGTs the the turbine housing will sag and cause clearance issues and possible just melt all the way through.

Remember you get what you pay for.

Just to be clear here the machine didn't rip that housing open the heat generated by the maching caused the turbine housing to melt where it was too thin. As you can imagine the heat generated by machining isn't nearly as hot as exhaust gas.
