I've been running the TiAL for about 17 months now. Before that I was on the stock recirc valve.
If by performance problems you mean idle, stuttering and stalling...no. I ran the VTA for about 45 days or so before my cams were installed and never noticed the engine sputtering at throttle let off or low idle. And since the cam install the only time my car wants to stall out is when the A/C is on. But then again, I'm not tuned properly for my cams yet.

If you have any other question feel free to PM me...

This argument is going to continue to go in circles..

In order to get a VTA blowoff valve to "idle okay" and "Not sputter/stall" at low throttle loads.. You have to use a pretty serious amount of spring pressure.. Excess spring pressure leads to compressor surge, RPM raises between shifts under some conditions, Difficulty tuning..

On the EVO, the air path is a closed loop system, once the air gets passed the MAF, its accounted for regardless of what happens to it.. Therefore even when you close the throttle, the metered air gets diverted back through the turbo and the ECU already knows how to deal with it..

I have no problems with people wanting to experiment and try this stuff, but trust us when we say its a waste of money unless you already have the supporting mods that REQUIRE you to use this option.. Is it really worth spending an additional 1000-2000$ just to be able to VTA? Of course not..

BOV's are a collosal waste of money, they do nothing to improve performance on a mostly stock car.. There are better mods to make with the $150 you might spend, if you find you need a new DV, then use an MR DV, or JDM DV.. Most others that recirculate will work okay, but you may have trouble with them until their adjusted properly..

If you were to remove your recirculation hose from your DV, you will find at idle that some air blows out of it.. There's nothing wrong with it, what is wrong is when you have to tune around something that has little or no performance value just for the "Sound"

Ultimately its up to you guys to run what you want.. I do run an HKS SSQV, and its probably the worst possible valve out there for most configurations, its prone to surging on fast spooling turbos, however on my car (blowthrough MAF, GT35r, big cams) I needed something that offered a positive seal, but because of my combination of parts, I can get away with it, but I certainly found it to be a waste to make the mods I did (blowthrough MAF kit) if it was only to avoid recirculation to get a sound.

Well i have a gReddy type RS, i had it recirculated for a bit, then one day decided to VTA to test it, my performance change, when i full throttle it felt like the car was runing too rich and it wasnt moving anywhere,my boost was at 1 bar, etcc... so i switched it back to recirc, work best that way for me. just my point of view.
