I will be attempting this soon. I like to keep a sleeper look, but it will still be an evo so it might be hard to convince people of its "mild bolt on upgrades".

If you'd like I can take pictures of my attempt, and I'll post em up.

Hell yeah, that would be awesome! I'm planning on doing the same as a new thread/write-up with images, instructions, etc.

I've got a dremel w/ cutting discs I was planning on using for this mod, but I would be curious to see how you plan executing your modification.

Are you cutting the whole bottom? Just the part opposite the motor?

Is evo empire as wack as Norcal Evo?

The last douche bag in a white Evo X with an AMS intercooler that revved on me on the freeway had an evo empire sticker on his car. Good showing.

Thanks for the link, regardless. Those pictures show the end results, but I don't see any showing the work in progress.

great idea! I was going to put my stock airbox back on and noticed it was cracked at the bottom. Now I have a use for it. I just hope my AMSoil filter isn't too big and will fit in there with the stock pipe.

From the Evo Empire thread (Snatched images):

Here are some more pics that show exactly where I cut the airbox:

Looks like the OMG filter is a bit big for the stock airbox. The key I would believe would be to isolate the filter as much as possible from engine heat. That airbox was hella hacked to the point that one would be inclined to just run an open filter. Look closely at the pics malibujack posted originally. GST sells a filter thats works without chopping the airbox all to hell. Just the bottom is cut out.

I'm looking to run a Perrin 4.5" so I'm curious to see how that fits.

Funny you should say that as I am running the Perrin foam filter open now. Hoping to squeeze it in the stock box this week. My suspicion is that the vibrant adapter I am using will take up too much room to fit the filter also.

Are you running the filter with the stock intake arm?

If by "arm" you mean pipe then no. A trimmed Samco.

Thanks for uploading pics I am on my iPhone and was trying to drive at the time. To my knowledge the only filter that fits is the one from gst that's discontinued and the one from speed element fits too I believe. When using the adaptor it will make it too big to fit, the filters for se and gst bolt directly to maf. No adaptor
