OTS Stage 1 Issues

Hey guys,

New to this forum and the car in general (first turbo car!). I just flashed my Evo X GSR with Cobb's OTS stage 1 91 Octane Map and am having some issues. I am overboosting to 28 PSI and getting knock sums of 1-2 during WOT. I know the AP AFR gauge isn't as accurate as a wideband but it's giving me AFR readings of 10.2 - 11.7 at idle/cruise and WOT. I would imagine it can't be that rich! Mostly around 11.2 though. I have 93 octane in the car right now. Should I try to flash to a LWG 91/93 octane map?

Here are some datalogs that I took. Apologies in advance for the terribly long files!

Any help/advice you can provide would be appreciated. It's still a learning curve for me so please take it easy.

I will be getting a protune but not for another year or so.

Thanks!

I sent these logs to Cobb to verify as well.

Is the car safe to drive this way?

The car is safe to drive. Just don't beat the hell out of it (full boost/throttle) until you get the issue sorted out. Try running the LWG map. Make sure to use the right octane.

Thanks for the reply! I flashed it to stage 1 lwg. Looks like I'm peeking at 26psi which isn't terrible. AFR on the AP is still 10.2-11.7 idle and cruise though.

IIRC 26psi is target boost. I'm hitting 25-26psi. Maybe 1 knock sum during spirited driving or track use.

Thanks for confirming the PSI guys. I'm just confused on the AFR and why it's running so rich. Knock sum has mostly been 1-2 with one 3rd gear pull up to 3 which I believe is within the accepted range.

Is that per driving session? Or every time you do a pull?

You should be hearing from Cobb soon. They usually respond to emails pretty quick. Great customer service IMO.

Per driving session I get knocksum of 1. Every time I hit full boost knocksum is around 2.

So 2 max per driving session. I'm at the same. I hit maybe 3 if it's REALLY cold out and I get on it. Never goes past that (per session). You're good.

Maybe I'm really **** but the COBB website does not say for the Stage 1, 91octane map that the peak psi is 26lbs.

Straight from their site:
Stage 1 Maps (Map0 – Performance, Map1 – Economy)
 Stage 1
o Boost Control Solenoid: Stock with stock restrictor pillso Exhaust Requirements: Stock (aftermarket cat-back will not affect tune)o Intake Requirements: Stock airbox with stock air filtero Boost Targets: 23.5 PSI peak tapering down to 17 PSI by the 7700 RPM redline (+/-1.5 PSI)

Mind you my AP at WOT never reads 23.5. It's always reading at 25-27PSI. Not sure if it's 100% accurate but maybe someone from COBB can chime in and elaborate.

I'm still hitting around 26 PSI on the LWG map. I'm running the 93 octane map and also have knock pretty consistently. Highest knock sum is still 2 and it happens throughout the rev range.

a knock of two doesnt seem bad at all but I would send your logs to Cobb to make sure.

FYI - I have sent some logs to Cobb and they informed me that 3 knocks equal 1 degree of timing change.
