If your rev limiter is at 8k you shouldn't have to change gear into 5th. By the end of the track on 4th gear I was at 7600ish rpm. My rev limiter is set at 7800 rpm.

Are you on the stock clutch? If so it may be slipping with such a slow time and low trap speed. On the highway put it in 5th at about 40mph floor it and if the RPM's spike up without the car moving faster you'll know.

i have a new clutch, and new flywheel. when i put it in 5th gear, or any other gear for that matter, it moves like its on crack !
as long as its moving, it has enough power to tow a house, but my only problem is a standing start.

Tomorrow will be a wrong day for him to practice. since you will be competing. Lets go in the middle of the week. For test and tune. Island dragway. Its cheaper and you get more runs.

Ok something is wrong here. While drag racing your car is no where near max'd out in 2 at 50mph come on... also 105 is no where near the limit in 4th your car is probably closer to 115.... You 60' time tells me your not going through 1st very fast so unless your clutch is slipping you need to get a ride by someone who knows what there doing. Take up some of the offers you have gotten. Peace

actually with an MR i think 105 is about where you would shift from 4th to 5th unfortunately

You need to have the rev limiter raised or disconnect it (search forum for how to do this) make sure you reconnect it when done racing or the revs will fall really slow in between shifts. Now that the car is ready...
Rev it to around 6k-6.5k Let the clutch out just a bit now your ready... let the clutch out slow until the car starts to move then drop it. In reality it will almost feel like you just dropped it but there is a very slight hesitation to engage the clutch before you dump the clutch. Let it out to slow and you burn the hell out of a stock clutch and may get wheel hop, let it out in drop and you will get drivetrain shock. A great launch will get you a low 1.6. Hope that helps. The whole launch is very fast once you master it. If you have a twin disc launch it like your trying to light up a honda civic's tires ie... slip it a bit more.

There are some that can launch at the 5k rev limiter from the factory. I find it really difficult.
Disconnect the rev limiter? Why would you tell him to do that? The rev limiter is put there to save the motor.

Bad info the rev limiter is there to save the drive train has nothing to do with the motor. The only way he can raise the rev's with the car in 1st is to flash the ecu and have the rev limiter raised or disconnect it. Disconnecting it takes less then a minute and will allow you to launch the car more aggressively. The bottom line... some people can and have launched the car with the factory rev limiter. However it is to low for the masses.
His OP shows he has no clue and is trying to learn. I tried to give good help. My car makes very similar power to his and I went to the track sat and ran two passes...
Pass 1 Pass 2
R/T .050 .120
60' 1.640 1.641
330 4.864 4.862
1/8 7.590 7.590
MPH 91.89 91.89
1000 9.971 9.968
1/4 11.974 11.968
MPH 112.60 112.81

Let the launch speak for itself. Remember if you disconnect the rev limiter, you must reconnect when done racing as it effects the way the revs fall when you shift (they fall really slow). Enjoy

Ok. I think we are talking about 2 different things. Engine rev limiter and 2 step.
