downshifting (in detail)

asking this is like asking someone to explain photchopping to you.. dont worry about rev matching just get some time behind the seat learning how to shift and drive the car.. it should come natural, if it doesnt go to driving school, if that doesnt work you will be among the 130 million other people in this country who cant drive, and keep clutch companys in business..

Do a search like they said but really quickly... daily driving can cause you to shift at different points in the rpm band but its usually personal preferance. I shift between 3-4k depending on how "easy" i want to be on the car when accelerating. Rev matching is basically matching the rpm of your car in mid shift (neutral) to where it will be when you downshift to a lower gear. In other words, going from 4th to 3rd you would tap the gas when your shifting motion brought the shifter through the neutral position so that when you released the clutch after putting it into 3rd gear the rpm's would already be in the upper rpm band, where they should be from down shifting. This would created a "smooth" sensation throughout the whole car and saves wear on the tranny and engine alike. Sounds complicated I'm sure but once you actually do it, that dim bulb will brighten.

why don't you try to search for a evolution manual.

it's all broken down by what rpm, what speed to downshift.

+1, I don't even think about it...you just do it by experience and feeling...the Evo's my 1st manual car ever and I got the downshift thing down within a month...1st month man..I was dropping it too fast and crap...argh, boy did I feel stupid.

as long as you're not rev matching 5th to 2nd when it really should be 5th to say 4th....you should be ok...lol
