Like I said in the other post, I think this is a great idea.. I would love to participate in this if I could afford it.. but as a privateer who isn't sponsored, its unlikely I could show off my efforts and my methods since I couldn't afford to complete the car, make the trip, transport myself, the car, and a support crew, and pay the lodging.. How frustrating is that?

LKets face serious relaity - when we are dealing with driving against the same exact individuals in all of these time attack contests who are driving on their home track which they have been driving for yours - HOW CAN YOU possibly expect to have any chance driving across the country and setting out on the track for the 1st time????

These kind of contests are really stacked to try and promote the same two or three shops that are local in that area and who constaly are driving on that course

To me its a big yawn

That is exactly why I prefer auto cross as the course is unqiue each time and gives a level playing field for all drivers

Yeah I kind of realize that.. Not to mention the car isn't even done yet.. So much for trying to establish a reputation eh?

Well, I was kidding myself in thinking I could do it, and be competative.. there's just no way without sponsorship.. I can't even afford to finish my car quickly and set up a shop..

Well, sorry you can't make it. And we would welcome your car, but we want professional drivers to pilot the tuner cars (Most of the shops hire drivers). If they do it at the California speedway you hit the banking at 150 miles an hour. Which sounds awesome, but it's something KK is looking into in regard to the risk/reward with street cars.

And there is a VERY capable driver on the forums here located in CT, PM me if you want his SN, maybe he would be interested in driving for you.

Frankly man - I think its oarding on stupidity when we start having to hire profssional drivers to pilot our cars. I am a simple hobiest / sportsman who enjoys driving and tuning my car as a hobby and as my job. I have no interest in being a race car "owner" having others drive my car to try and proove a point - to me its just plain silly

Well, put your 3037 back in and bring it out autocrossing! I was drag racing every week until I tried autocross 2 months ago, now I'll never go back! It's not as dangerous, not too much money (especially on drivetrain) and it REALLY makes you a better driver.

I used to do that when I had my WRX all the time - I did very well and I agree its a blast

Auto cross is a really fun advenure and I support it 100% - its just really too bad that this "tuner" contest has somehow moved beyond a test of tuner concepts and cars into a driver's contest. It would have been better as an auto cross / drag race that showed more about which tuner's parts worked better and less about whoes driver is more skilled and reckless

After I solidify my long term goal of running a 10 second pass on street radials and no nos.. . . . then I will prob retire from drag racing and restore the car into a more modestly tuned street machine and just enjoy having a really fast car that had held together for over 12,000 miles of insane abuse !

Thats nice. it makes you a better driver at going around cones at 25 mph. But i wouldnt say it REALLY makes you a better driver making a sharp corner at 25 mph and 100+ mph is a big difference.
It sounds like you just want AL to lose? cause even if he has the better car lack of knowing the Track will hurt. Its like racing a friend down a back rode he doesnt know the corners or how fast he can come into them at.
hiring drivers? its not tuner vs tuner or even car vs car its who hired the best driver.

I am glad that someone gets my drift on this. Personally these antics show me that some people just have a LOT of money to throw about. I just hope that everyone gets through this contest in one piece and without crashing their evos. Its not my cup of tea to say the least.

IMHO i don't think it should be a contest of "who can afford the best driver", and that regardless of any contest, it should be that the tuners are the ones that drive the cars...

now its just a factor of "who has the most money contest"

These kind of exercises are usually conducted by those with huge quantities of deposable cash - (read very rich people) who can afford to trash vast sums of cash - - - - - - of by the tuning houses that cater to that group

I am neither and can afford neither
