Speaking as someone who was previously a serious bike rider and who has taken some nasty spills, I learned the hard way that you do not get invloved with some activity unless you are prepared and ready to face the consqeuences
A contest of speed on an open road course with 100 mph plus veloicties is a serious business and I know myself and my nature and I am not willing to face the even remote possibility of destroying my car and injuring myself to boost up my ego or win some internet bragging rights
I am not knocking those who participate in such activites - certainly road racing is a very rewarding and satisfying pursuit. However, people who sign on to raceing against one another on a road course at 100 plus mph need to realize what they are getting themselves into and what is at stake.
I have heard many a story of people with totaled cars and no insurance coverage at road racing events. Heck - I think the Cobb WRX even drove into a water truck on a skid pad.
While I certainly would like to return to my motor bike days and cruise the road on a fast harley - I have made myself a promise not to do that kind of activity as I really do not want to wind up again in a few peices in some emergency room with some doctor pulling peices of rocks out of my skull
Everyone has to chose for him / her self where to draw the line and what kinds of risks they are comfortable
I sincerly feel there is a way to measure car performance and tuner skill which does not involve placing one's life at risk
Far be it for me to crticise anyone else for engagning in such activities, however, I really would like to see a Evo contest that has more aspects than an all out speed lap on a road course
al's evo is by far one of the if not the best looking, fastest street driven evo's around.all of you in doubt should shut your mouth and bring it to the track and go heads up with big al.but ya wont cause all you do is type smack. or you are a self rightous other "wannabetuner"customer that is jealous that you can't see the numbers DYNOFLASH customers get to enjoy.

Al, put a smaller turbo in and come over. Nothing to worry about, if you win you win if you loose so what......... You said you have dynoed 700 EVOs lets say each one is in the average of $250 that’s $175000 at least so you do have the power and the money to come down here. Don’t say that you can't afford it because this is none sense. Either you come or no, in my eyes the tuner that does not show up is not up to the challenge.
Please that is about the childish thing ive read yet. did you take taxes out of that travel cost, food, hotel not to metion the equipment to tune? Then he has a wife probably a house plus his EVO & parts. im sure he makes alot of money tuning. come on dont be a fool every business has costs.
one tuner only has to travel across the street then the other from across the country?
Why are all you guys trying to force him to do this race its one race. i would consider a race that is going to happen across the country a little out of the way.
Not up to the challenge or to many cars to tune to make it to every race every where.
Oh and one other thing he did say this type of racing isnt for him but why the hell does that matter. its only his car and his life.

The reason why I lik drag racing so much is that when the rubber meets the road and the amber light turns green the BS, talk and games end and reality hits you square between the eyes. There is no defying the laws of physics
he said it wasnt for him. if i dont like something i dont care if its 1 dollar its to much for me to justify.
You dont know what he can and cant afford. do you do his books? you said nothing about expenses in you post. if you dont care if he comes or not then why did you say? in my eyes the tuner that does not show up is not up to the challenge. you cared enough to post that and come over here post rant like a fool.
Please whos the kid you come over from Fish poo's forum to rag on AL. you people are like a bunch of out of control kids. i know that remark lowers me to you level but atleast im not in his forums doing it.
to rag on a tuner cause you prefer another is childish and proves you have the mental state of a 6 yr old.

The reality is that NO ONE gets into the tuning business to strike it rich - we do this becuase its what we enjoy and beacuse we are interested in mastering and working in the field of motorsports.
The bottom line is that I do this business becuase I find it very rewarding and I enjoy providing Evo owners with an affordable and quailty tuning solution.
IF I was looking to make a lot of money - this is not the way to do it trust me.
As the gentleman above wisely commented - although our revenues may seem impressive when you add them up - we do have rather significant costs of doing busisiness including dyno time bills that would shock you, fed ex, travel to places all over the US, equipment, tools and 02 sesnors, marketing materials, office rent, telephone, utilities, etc etc etc etc. Anyone who has been in business will tell you that ANY business that can even break even in its first years is doing very well. After deducting all our expenses - what's left supports myself, my family and goes into car parts and modifications for my car and also funds the drag racing events that we attend and race gas for my car.
It is very unlikely that my business could ever afford to fund a cross country trip, renting a truck and trailer, hotels , food, tolls, gas, race gas, entry fees, broken parts, etc etc etc.
Also - I seriously doubt I could afford to take off enough time to drive out there do the event and drive back.
Next year we are hoping to pick up a paying sponsor or two to help defray the costs of entry fees at NHRA events (average $65.00 per) race gas ($40.00 per race) hotels and gas so that we can maybe expand our racing program and do more events througout the country. This year I think we will have attended 8 events so far and will be going to anoher 5 or 6 by the end of the year. All of the costs of our racing program are borne by myself at this juncture. I am very lucky that I was able to get a few sponsors to assist me with tires and other items we go through at an amazing rate.
Until you have actually attempted to try and campaign a race car throughout a full season of races you will never realize the tremendous expense and effort involved in racing.
It becomes very clear - very quickly - that you will never make a dime doing this and that the only reason why you go through all the head aches and nightmares you go through is for the thrill of cometition and the love of motorsports.
You guys need to understand something BASIC about road racing some tracks ARE MAJOR CAR EATERS and California speedway is one of them. At the last event there were TEN sheetmetal "events" and EIGHT mechanical "events"(dead puked motors) that's alot of $$$'s posted by these owners and they (the Speed Ventures guys ARE FAST!) know their cars and know how to prep and them drive too.
So I can understand Al's concern add the $3,000.00 (AFTER MODS no travel) this day will cost anyone who is serious about doing well AKA TOP FIVE (it will prob. take 5K + to insure a top three) and you can see where bragging rights will be more expensive than they are worth to many. Also some "tuner" shops have little to NO reputation so IF they do well it's a BIG bonus IF they do bad it's easy to explain away so the odds are in their favor. And they will take a shot at the "free" publicity.

The ROVAL is one of the hardest tracks to get used to I've ever run on. Try this get out onto the front straight at the top of third from the infield just before the hot pit entry then floor it through 4th and 5th as you see the corner start it's decreasing radius and you notice your going 150+ mph Got ***** anyone? Do you back off, left foot brake, or trust the car, your suspension tuner (aero package) and the physics that your car SHOULD scrub off speed at the same time your tighting up the radius (and your bung hole!) all this within easy reach of a chainlink topped K-rail and the outside wall designed to contain 200MPH NASCAR sedans...and even more walls in the infield and 3 more 120 MPH straights that link these corners. I saw more bent track cars at this Speed Ventures events track day than at all other events together!
Oh the 4th/5th accelleration event lasts 30 seconds at full boost and constantly increasing air and rolling resistance this has and will KILL high boost motors.
None of these cars in order to be competetive will have anything resembling a stock EVOs Spring's/shocks engine managment etc., so no matter what it's a crap shoot.
I voted for the dec event for the schedule NOT for the track. I think of the tracks we've run Buttonwillow #13 CCW is the safest at the speeds we're talking about...and gives a better range of slow speed corners through high speed corners. with Streets of willow CCW a very close second... But if you use SOW CW no bowl you can get times that are directly comparible with the SCC evo orgy and USCC...
BTW Dyno/Buschur flashed cars were the cars to beat at the OTC this year in Touring-3 and even placed 4th Touring overall I think this type of road racing success should silence any doubters (but not the haters).

I ran a business and I know where you are coming from but this event is a business expenses to improve your tuning and show your customers how much interested you are. It's up to you. good luck.
ok guys, i think that Al already said his mind so i don't think that any of us can change this. why don't we just let it be and enjoy the event regardless. i will be there (coming from Boston) and i am sure that it will be a great event for all of us.
alex alex- please grow up. that german police comment was not only out of line but also retarded. if you don't like it here, feel free to show yourself the door.

Honestly - the power my car has obtained in such a short time has suprized me and I am certainly not driver or man enough to manage a wild machine like mine with 550 whp through 4 wheel drifts. I am just gettng used to the sensation of 4 tires spinning at 100 mph and the rear end trying to go past the front end when you are trying to drive in a staight line! Taking corners flast out with this kind of power is not something I will be up for for some time.
I respect Robi becuase he wrenches on his car - drives it - drums up sponsors - gets himself into magazines and runs his whole show and . . . . in the process he kicks *** on the track doing it !
This road racing thing is not for me
What happend to Derek at the OTC was enough for me to see to realize that its not something I am planning to do anytime soon - - I'll stick to tuning and driving fast in a straight line
