I wasn't posting "misinformation" I JUST had my car done last week, and this is what my tuner recommended as I asked the same question... I trust his opinion because he has tuned alot of E-85 builds and has been through this before...

Maybe you need to find a new tuner then.

Who to trust? The guy that tunes 4-800hp evos on a regular basis, and netted me a 380hp monster evo with NO knock. Or the random guy with too many posts on this forum... hmmm..

I am running Precision 1200cc's with a Walbro 255 on E-85 and my IDC is only in the mid-80s. I have cams and it idles just fine. I have a 9 though, but shouldn't be too big of a difference.

I'm not just a random guy in the forums, but believe what you want. I was just informing others about the truth, rather than your tuner's opinion.

I guess I was just 'lucky' in being able to tune my 1250s on pump and E85 at stock idle and timing with no issues. Must be beginner's luck seeing that I have only been tuning 4G63s for about 10 years or so.

Maybe if you started learning about the ECU rather than blindly accepting a tuner's opinion, you may actually learn something. For all I know, maybe you were even misquoting your tuner.

But the fact is that 1000cc and bigger injectors can be tuned on the stock ECU with a competent tuner. That was where I was trying to correct your 'misinformation', but I see you got a little defensive.

You are not seeing the forest for the trees. This is a forum, meaning the OP is asking for different opinions / experiences from other members of the community. You expressed your ideas with this issue and I expressed mine. Nuff said.

OP, go find a recommended tuner in your area and ask what they would prefer. I think that is your best answer

I guess that's where we differ. This is a forum, which should be a knowledgebase of factual information, not flooded with opinions. I don't think the OP wanted an opinion...he wanted some facts.

I do agree that a good choice would be to find a competent tuner, but an even better choice would be to learn how to tune yourself. There is a great ECUFlash subsection of the forums for that. There are numerous people there that will offer free advice and tuning recommendations all the while you actually get to learn stuff.

I guess it's just up to the individual and what their ultimate goal is. But I was just educating him with a fact that 1200cc injectors could be tuned easily, especially on E85. I think that helps him so that if he does decide to get tuned, he now at least has that knowledge, so that if his tuner of choice says otherwise, he is now informed that the tuner may not be a good choice.

It takes some effort to get a good idle with big injectors and the stock ECU. The car has to be in good running shape with no boost leaks, and the injector scaling and latency values need to be right on the money. Sometimes a bit of ISCV table tweaking helps too. You'll probably hear more stories of good idle from people who tune their own cars because it does take time.

I just tuned another set of FIC BlueMax 1450cc on a Evo Saturday. The car had been tuned before, by me, on denso 720cc injectors.

It idles just like the 720cc's did, on 91oct and on E85. The 720's idled just like stock injectors did. No stalling coming to a light after clutch in, no weird idle surges, etc.

Also had a double pumper, stock FPR, stock rail.

I run Bluemax1450's also without issues. Good idle, good driving, good starts -good times.

And I'm not even a "tuner" - I made it work. With help from some of these "random" posters you can learn a lot of stuff!

some of the 1200's actuall have the potential to idle better than the 1000cc due to being disc style injector versus ball and seat. I run 1200cc injectors and idle/drivability like stock.

PS I have also helped several members dial their 1200's in as well
