Ecuflash Simple Question

I have just received my cable and have the software on a laptop. This probably seems like a stupid question but I have searched and haven't found an answer yet . . .

Do you leave the ignition key "off" after connecting the cable and starting the Ecuflash software?

I just didn't know if the ecu needs to be powered while you are downloading from it.

Thanks in advance,

Bob

when trying to read or write the software will prompt you to turn the ignition switch to the on position

Thanks EVO8_PR I haven't tried the software yet and just didn't want to have any surprises.

Yeah what's all that smoke pourin' out from under the glove box

I downloaded my base ecu hex file and all went well. I did have to restart the Ecuflash program after it installed the drivers.

Kind of funny it tells you to turn on the ignition key and "quickly" hit the "OK" button, made me wonder a little what happens if you're not "quick enough"

Whether your reading, writing, or comparing roms, when you trigger bootstrap mode, the ECU is now "Distracted" from running the engine, if it was running the engine will just stop..

The key however does have to be in the "Run position" without the engine running to read or write the ECU.. ACC and Off won't connect..

Thanks MalibuJack,

I was worried enough leaving the key on while it was downloading. Is it bad for the coils on the Evo if the key is left on for long with the engine off?

Just wondering. The Ecuflash software is some really cool stuff. I saved my base flash and sent it off to Al for a tune for my minor mods.

I don't know jack (LOL) about hex but I did download a freeware hex file compare utility.

It's pretty interesting to see all of the data.

Jack you would know this, my car is an 03 and when I was looking at the base map it shows the stationary rev limit at like 7969, rev limit while moving is at 7606.

Is that a goof or is that somwthing in the early software? BTW my base map says the ecu is an 04 (I bought it new).

Thanks for all the great info

that actually means you have no stationary rev limiter. the limiters while moving is the master rev limiter, the stationary cannot be above it, so it is disabled.
