I had some time yesterday, so I decided to redo my MIVEC from scratch...

What did I determine after 2 hours of logging ?

My starting map was exactly where I should be... lol.

I posted it earlier in the thread, but here it is again... My engine & mods combo just loves this map. I've got the stock cams (272s awaiting install):

The person in question has no reason to exaggerate, but it would explain why they respond so well to just a 272 exhaust cam, why even Turbotrix 272 intake cams idle like stock, and why GSC and Turbotrix have 280's.

Edit, included other cam makers that offer same results.
I know this is an old post of yours. but can you please pm me the private mivec forum.

I just noticed that my stock mivec map only went to 7k. I wonder what the ECU does when you exceed the 7k rpm mark.

Uses the values in the last row i.e. the 7k rpm row

a friend of mine just got a 2006 Evo IX GSR used from Japan. He pulled the rom and a number of things were VERY off:
  • High Octane Ignition maps in all 3 tables are higher than what I've seen in other stock IX GSR roms
  • High Octane Fuel map is also different from IX GSR Maps
  • Boost Limit has been set to 319 for all cells
  • VVT Map 1 has been completely modified

At first I thought the car was reflashed by the owner in Japan who apparently has no idea what he's doing. Then however, I located an original version of this rom and compared values. It seems that the 89980000 ROM is an almost completely different tune from your typical JDM IX GSR evo. On further research I learned that this is actually the rom that comes from an evo IX GT. After a conversation on the phone with the owner of the car I found out the car was sold to him knowingly with a different ecu.

So to get to the point...this guy is running a IX GSR with the ecu from a IX GT!

just to give you an idea here is your typical JDM IX GSR VVT Map:

this is the vvt map that came off the IX in question (rom id 89980000):

this is the vvt map from an unaltered IX GT with rom id 89980000:

that's a whole nother thread but a few of the differences:

GSR turbo = TD05HR-16G6C-10.5T Inconel (Aluminium/Steel) alloy.
GT turbo = TD05HRA-16G6mC-10.5T Magnesium alloy.
RS turbo = TD05HRA-16G6C-10.5T Titanium aluminide alloy.
MR turbo = TD05HRA-16G6C-10.5T

The GT is a hybrid between the RS and GSR. Think of it like the best of both worlds. You get the comfort and sensibility of the GSR but weighs less @ 3064 lbs. You get the stronger 5-speed gearbox, no AYC, and tires that are more durable for track days. It's even a little cheaper than the GSR. Besides the Evo VI RSII, some consider this the to be the 'ultimate' factory evo.

In terms of the tune, I haven't gotten a chance to compare the rom with that of a USDM IX GSR or RS Rom. In general though the JDM roms tend to have a slightly more aggressive tune. A little more timing and the fuel tables, although still very rich, not as rich as the US cars.

I hope this somewhat answers your question.

so it would be safe considering the USDM maps are richer to apply FUEL and TIMING to see what gives? Hmm VVT im a little hesitant about....any thoughts guys?
