Tune for Cams

Hey Guys I have the following mods:

- 3inch Downpipe & Decat + Backbox
- BMC drop-in Filter
- Warlbro 255L fuel pump
- ECU Reflash with ECU-Flash (22psi)
- Restrictor pill removed from solenoid side

And I'm making about 300WHP with these mods

I am going to add shortly:

- HKS intake and exhaust Cams
- 3inch HKS Silentpower Cat Back

What do I need to change in my Tune my current AFR is 10.4 at 7000rpm and about 11's in the midrange.

thanks
Sal

this is the Evo IX right ??..

Because HKS doesnt have IX cams because of the MIVEC, but they released, new ones, you have to check your cams, for what car is it.

Hi

Yes, HKS have just released the IX MIVEC Intake cam - I have ordered them from the local HKS agent and they will be here next week...

But I actually wana know if a tune is absolutely necesary with Cams and if so typically what would I need to look at changing.

I have the JDM Mivec Map...

Sal

To be honest - I got a good deal on the HKS, plus bonus is that the local agent will install them for me as well...

Nothing against the GSC S1's but I think there is still mixed feelings about them and I regard HKS as well proven (quality) stuff.

GSC's you have to take away some fuel near the top, but the mid range AFR's seem to stay about the same. It will be mostly fuel, though the ignition timing will be able to be added to.

I agree, that's awfully rich at high rpm and undoubtedly robbing you of horsepower.

Yep I know but I only plan to lean it out when the Zeitronix is fitted along with my Cooling Mist Water-Alky Injection.

I would have personally gone with the cosworth cams since they are proven to make power, i dont think i've seen any comparison with teh HKS and other cams out there...

But yes you do need a tune and 10.4 is really rich...

once you get everything installed, i hope you know of a good tuner locally or , well Mellon is always on here lol

good luck

MIVEC can only control the timing of the intake cam and that only really affects valve overlap. Changing the cam itself changes the lift and duration which gives more power. They can all be used together for "teh win."

Thanks, well so far I have managed to tune it myself - have had a fair bit of success with ECUFlash but one of the reason's I haven't been leaning it out too much is because the pump fuel quality we have over here is like 89mon...

But yes if I don't come right our local tuner does ECUTEK and is a HKS & AMS vendor so he will be able to get me sorted for sure, have chatted to him already about this...

My intention wasn't to go for wild cams because I feel stockers are pretty good - I actually only wanted to do a GSC 272 exhaust cam because I wanted to avoid messing with the valve train at this stage - but I am told that the HKS cams are designed to work with the stock valve train so I'm gona give them a shot...
