Hi, i have an EVO8 and i'm tuning it to have a good mileage and top power. An Evo9 has variable cams so you have a different map. In the US they do not care too much about fuel consumption so I advise to install a good AFR meter (Zeitronix 200 euro) to see what the
actual AFR is. Only then you can tune it correctly.
Mellon Tuning can send you a start map but as i wrote they are at start far too rich.

Thanks, Rico

This is a great thread, very helpful! One thing you could add to the section on scaling injectors and trying to get LTFTs right:

LTFT (mid) => cruise
LTFT (low) => idle

If low ~= mid & both > 0 then decrease injector scaling
If low ~= mid & both < 0 then increase injector scaling
If low > mid then increase latency values
If low < mid then decrease latency values

found this in another thread and it helped me a lot .

ok, might be an extremely noobie question so sry in advance

If 14.7:1 is set to reduce emissions and the table reads 14.7:1 on a stock map at cruise and idle, does that mean 14.7:1 is the actual AFR or just the number you put into the map which according to the post, turns out to be something different?

Another example, 15.2 AFR is supposedly the best for gas mileage. Does that mean the actual AFR 15.2 is the best or 15.2 when put into the map since what you put into the map is different than what the actual AFR is?

What I'm trying to say is if (FOR EXAMPLE) I want good gas mileage when cruising, do I actually put 15.2 into the table or I aim for 15.2 AFR which I would then put another AFR into the table trying to achieve 15.2 AFR?

I been reading up tuning and I think i just ended up confusing myself

Thanks in advance and I'll clarify if what I said made no sense.

The map is only used for open loop, when the car is cruising its in closed loop which references the oxygen sensor which is designed to target an AFR of 14.7 (1.0 lambda). The values in the fuel maps aren't EXACTLY what the actual AFR readings will be but simply a reference. If you were to manually run your car in open loop you will see that while cruising your AFR's are not going to be exactly 14.7 in the cruising cells.

great right up but i have a few questions, and though i am new to this software and hardware i am not to adjusting fuel maps in other programs such as hydra. I will be using ecu flash for my evo. my questions are simple, and are probably only confusing to me but here they are....
Q: when you are refering to specifically numbered roms, are you refering to the specific rom off of say my ecu? or is it a group of ecu's?
Q: I had planned to run e-85 and love the idea of being able to switch between two ecu maps. The tephra mod (and i do know he is just a person on here) incorporates a toggle switch but no mention of how to or what you are wiring between. ie what does the toggle switch turn on/off.
Q: Yours, malibujacks, tephras threads are all great, alot of info, but the last thing i am confused on is that tephra puts out numbered roms, what do these numbers reference? i have searched and read alot, but haven't found the answers to my questions anywhere. BTW i know this is probably very simple and i swear im not a complete tard, just confused a little.
