The guys I know that get tunes get these values changed. I would now see 8500 or mostly 8250. Im guessing it would not interpolate considering these are real values that can be reached on the RPM? Please Advise....

I rescaled my peak to 7500rpm since thats the highest I run my engine and if I end up overshooting that rpm, I surely don't want to increase the timing so I'm content with it leveling off the timing where it stands in the last column. I have done enough runs to certianly confirm that the last column is definitely used by the ECU.

ok i will change it. I have been fidiling with timing up top recently which is why it has become a concern. The seems to fall off so i have slowly been adding timing.

HFC. I originally dyno tuned the car on a land an sea dyno when all i had was an O2 housing, downpipe and drop in filter. I have since then added a HFC and 3" cat back. This map actually has been improved since the dyno but the car made 290hp/320tq. On the dyno setup.

I am also running a pretty aggressive MIVEC map. I added timing to the 4-6k rpm range and started getting knock so i backed off timing. The car does die off up top so i have been slowly adding more timing.

Below is the new timing map i have been working on. The car peaks 280+/290 load and drops to around 220. Peak boost is 25/25+ tapering to 20ish by 7k with conservative WGDC so i have also been messing with that. Anyway this car has been my tuning test bed so i am slowly trying to push the envelop while learning what i am doing. I am always looking for suggestions with my tune though so feel free to give any.

Not really, he must be running about 10* up top and don't forget he has a IX which cant push as much timing as an VIII usually. I'd say he can squeeze a few more degrees out of it but thats it. If you can push higher timing than that...look for boost leaks cuz you certainly aren't getting the full VOLUME of air, which would allow greater timing without knock usually.

I really need to do a boost leak test. I already have the TB seals from MIL.SPEC waiting for me to pull the TB and Intake Mani. Otherwise i really should do a test.

normally i can get the IX's i tune to handle 13 or 14* up top and 3 - 5 at peak without any issues. Which is why i asked if he was running a cat or HFC... normally that seems to limit the timing i can run by at least 2*

word. I dont think i have ever done a 9 with with lower timing than 13-14* up top.

You nailed it J. 3-5* pk tq and 13,14 up top

i run 2-3 at peak torque. I dont want to risk knock with such high boost levels. Cars seems very happy at peak torque it is redline it wants to puke.

I guess I run more conservative than you guys. I hate having guys come back and complain about knock and stuff only because its just their spark plugs starting to wear out and the 'perfect tune in perfect conditions' tune only needs one incident to allow knock to awaken.

And in the end we are really only talking about 1-2* of timing

Which is my cushion generally. I tune til the onset of knock and kick it back 1-2* of timing. Everyone tunes differently and every car takes different amounts of timing as well.

which is usually the difference between an extra 10 to 15 hp in the right areas

this is very true... some cars dont like it all. Thats why tuners or in my case, "rom adjuster" lol, have to realize what the car wants and cant just cram what you want down its throat. Honestly though, i have yet to have someone come back and say man, this thing is running like crap lol. Usually what happens, is by the time the weather changes, they are ready for more mods, and need a new tune. I also tend to adjust people in the immediate area, so im always looking over their cars for them when i see them.

Great minds think alike ... Soon, im getting hold of that CBRD 50trim monster that is running around here. Im curious to see how well that thing does.

This is why i have been tuning in the fall months. Summer time throws everything off. At night it has been dropping to about 45* if not colder so i have been getting logs then. You are right how much the timing is worth in HP but with the flux in temperature here it is not worth the risk so sacrificing 1/32 of hp is ok by me.
