As you can see, its hard to tell in 3rd gear:

its noticeable on the dyno results though!

Right, like I said the speeds are too close to compare in a log. But the dyno results do differ a lot. In my pull, the 04 ratio is +16trq/+17hp compared to the 05 ratio.

I think you are right that the 05 has the same ratios as the IX though. I was just curious where that info is. I only have an 03 FSM and and 06 FSM. I have a spreadsheet with the evo ratios as well that was posted on the site, but it lists all VIIIs as the same.

Look in MrFreds original HP CALC thread about 2/3's the way in. SOmeone posted the PDF file someone made with the ratios for every version.

05 5spd to 06 5spd? No way, 4th gear on the 06 is just a tad longer than 4th on the 05 6spd.

05 5spd 4th gear is way longer than 06 5spd and 05/06 6spd

My MR's 4th went to about 112-115 and now my 05 spec 5spd 4th goes 120+

Here is what I have found and used for the simulator:

03-04's= 1.407,1.031,4.529

05's=1.444,1.096,4.529
05 MR= 1.434,1.100,4.583

06's=1.444,1.096,4.529
06 mr=1.434,1.1,4.529

I'll cross reference some more I guess. I'm tired of all this HARD CORE evidence being someones DIY spreadsheet. I need MITSU FACTS to certain.

I can guarantee you that 4th gear in the 05 and 06 are totally different.

The xls doc I linked matches up pretty darn close with what I have see on the dyno for speeds in 3rd and 4th at respective redline RPM.

I just want to have 200% confirmation of the gear ratios before I made yet ANOTHER revision, lol. Someones dookie spreadsheet isn't factual enough so I gotta track down some hard evidence I guess.

I hear you. Have you tried calling/contacting Jon@TRE or ShepTrans?

I would imagine they would know 100%.

Yeah I am about to PM Buschur and see if he has a SOLID resource (I assume it'd be SHEP that's his best resource lol). My buddy Bill was a parts manager for a Mitsu dealership and recently got a new job (way to go Bill, way to kill my best Mitsu resource! lol).

Here's some other sources on gear ratios. The bottom link has gear ratios for all the VIII's and IX's. I should note two of these sites list the final for the 6 speed as 4.538.. I think that's a typo and they should be 4.583 as we believe they are. However it indicates all the 6 speed cars have the alternate final drive which makes sense.

Google link didn't work and we already know the 03-04's and the 06's. Those are all exactly the same as I am already using. Its the 05's that are in question. They are the transitional model year and could possibly have been a hybrid of parts from the 8's to the 9's. Though the final for the IX MR may be correct.

Just confirm this stuff is correct or not, thats it really lol. (2005 ratios are the biggest concern)

2003-2004 5-speed
3rd:1.407
4th:1.031
Final:4.529

2005 5-speed

3rd:1.444
4th:1.096
final:4.529

2005 MR 6-speed
3rd:1.434
4t:1.1
Final:4.583

2006 5-speed
3rd:1.444
4th:1.096
Final:4.529

2006 MR 6-speed
3rd:1.434
4th:1.1
Final:4.529

I sent an e-mail to Buschur,Jon@TRE and Shep. That'll get to the bottom of this one way or another lol. My guess is going to be that the '05's are the same as the other Evo 8's but we'll see I'm sure.
