The more technically correct location is the IM, but it requires R&Ring the IM. Much easier to install it in the UICP, but perhaps the air temp will be a bit cooler than in the IM. Mine is in the UICP.

None of the USDM IMs have a bung. However, that location in the IM has an untapped flat (to the right of the circled MAP sensor). For the GM IAT, drill and tap for 3/8" NPT.

My apologies, I've been using the word "bung" to refer to that mounting location, and that's not quite right.
psphinx81, that's really strange; is that your original intake manifold, or one from another market?

huh. That's the stock IM? Had had assumed that all Evo's had that flat, but maybe its only on the IMs that correspond to the years when the JDM Evo 9 was manufactured (this is the location of the factory IAT sensor on JDM Evo 9s). At any rate, you'd need to remove the IM to tap it, so the solution is probably to find a used IM with the flat. Or there might be sufficient material to tap your IM.
that is not my orignal IM, it is jrods from buschur that he had on his evo before he sold it. its a ported stocker. its NOT a big deal if i cant put it in there, ill just put it in my UICP
edit: i just found a pic of my bone stock IM that i sold last year, it looks exactly like the one i have pictured above in my bay

Hmm; you know, some of the Wilson manifolds I've seen (but not all of them) have looked like that, and here's another example of a stock manifold without the mounting location.
I wonder if this was just an '03 oddity?
