If you raised your threshold for closed loop to open and had mr freds patch would it be possible to use the fuel map to target afrs at wot? Higher powered ecu ie motec and probably more i believe use lamba as live fueling adjustments. Possible to implement two fully functioning wbo2 as fail safe and use alt maps as a 2nd failsafe ipw map?

What reasons make this unsafe or reliable for those who would even necessitate such? Are those able to be overcome by technicalities in hardware setup and install? Would this provide year round tune infallibility?

 

WB feedback is supposed to be used to compensate for changing conditions not to totally run the car.

Even then its only designed to work in idle and low load situations. All the ECU's you listed do have that ability but again it wasn't made to be used at high power WOT. The job of a tuner is to calibrate the ECU to its specific configuration not tell the ECU to tune itself.

 

I believe I've read somewhere that the stock ECU likely wouldn't be fast enough in its adjustments in order to maintain a desired AFR at WOT.

 

its a bad idea. if you have a wideband going bad it can ruin the engine. some correction is good, but most ecu's dont have much for compensation or safety features.

Does fuel trims cause any changes to ol fuel? I heard Subaru does this with "D" fuel range.

 

There are factory vehicles that run full-time closed loop operation with wideband feedback. I believe the '06 VW GTi was one of them. I would prefer to use it for auto-tuning and then save it as open loop settings. It would save a lot of time

Yeah, you set a desired AFR curve and it corrects to get close to the target. Once you have it dialed-in, you save it as your openloop map and you are basically done. Other than a few tweaks and smoothing.
