Yeah it is powered from the OpenPort OBDII port and sends power down the usb cable to the EvoDroid7 - I put in a 3.0 Amp charger, which you will see a photo of in an earlier post in this thread. its about 3mm wide.

The EvoDroid7 will only get power when the car is on, or the key is in ACC position, you can feed in the ACC wire to the 2nd of the 8 inputs on the OpenPort 1.3DA cable.

Maybe I should include a spare yellow ACC wire in the EvoDroid7 box also... what is the easiest way to tap into an Evo9 ACC line from under the dash?

Right, what I'm wondering is if the FTDI chip inside the cable can be powered from the USB rather than the OBDII port?

For example, my Nexus 7 is already being powered from ignition and the host mode charging allows me to charge any other connected usb devices. That's how I'm charging the Nexus 7 and supplying power to and reading data from the RTL2832 USB stick right now.

So, what would be ideal is if your cable can get it's power from the USB end, so that I wouldn't have to worry about leaving the cable in a permanent installation with the car off for a long time (since the OBDII port is constant power). That way I could remove the pin that powers from the OBD-II port.

Spoke too soon. It was on the site before but today it isn't? Did you pull it Hamish? Or is it the 1.3D

I'm really crossing my fingers to receive this by June 7th, so I can test it out and do some logging on track on June 8 & 8.

Maybe you should just consider the Mark 1 version done, ship it and keep on building the improvements for Mark 2 As we say in game development "save something for the sequel".

Yeah Hamish, please just get them shipped - you know, if it needs a wire I'll make one up, if there is a bug in the software, you can release an update later, if it needs a micro USB cable then I'll nip down Dick Smith or Jaycar, Radio Shack, Tandy etc. (for the international audience) and buy one.

Please, can I just have what was ordered

Hi Hamish,

I'm totaly noob about Android and I wonder if the unit will have enough multitasking / display capabilities to run both Evoscan and some Lap Timer Software during track days ?

Keep the good work to come

Yeah, you can run some lap timer software at the same time as EvoScan on the EvoDroid7, I still have some code that was 90% complete for Windows Mobile that does lap timing, a future version of EvoScan will have a built-in more accurate Lap Timer than other software.

Once they are shipped, I will be making a howto youtube video, because Android does have some new user interface tricks that you need to know about how to switch between apps, end task EvoScan if on the off chance it stops responding, how to open hidden settings menus etc.

UPDATE: EvoScan Software v1.03 for EvoDroid7 using OpenPort 1.3DA cable is fully ready - this weekend just finished fixing some critical bugs, serial key and version updating code, after 3 days without sleep to get it done and will be shipped as soon as the spare mini USB cables arrive to me, they are in DHL transit.

I'm taking some update photos of Evo8 ECU Datalogging and Zeitronix wideband hookups right now.
