cbrd and bbk FTW

update for intercooler results on post #27 with new dyno graph

recently got my 9 tuned at cbrd and could not be happier. power delivery is smooth and predictable. the car pulls alot harder in every gear and is a blast to drive. anyone thinking about upgrading their turbo should definately consider this route especially if the car is a daily driver. the power comes on early and stays consistant through out the rpms, never dying off even at red line.

the mods:
cbrd bbk full ported turbo
gsc s2 cams and beehive springs
ported i/m and t/b
jm fab exhaust manifold
rc 750 injectors
perrin complete intake
perrin ebcs
megan o2 housing
buschur v-band turbo back
ets 3.5 inch intercooler and short route piping
arp head studs

i use exxon 93 octane gas and drive the car daily since it is my only ride. it ended up making 385hp/320tq at 26 psi. i ended up dropping the boost a litlle and pulling some timing just to keep it safe for daily use. its runing at 375hp/315tq as of now. im interested in checking out the cbrd front mount inter cooler and a retune to see if i can pull a litlle bit more out of it. if everything works out ill update with the new numbers.

here is a link to one of the dyno pullshttp://s678.photobucket.com/albums/v...t=DSCF1121.flv

and a dyno chart

Perhaps its tuned like a MBC and has taper induced, but you should be able to keep your boost curve a bit more flat with a proper BCS setup (if I'm reading hte graph right, looks like it tapers down to like 21psi by redline?). I have an almost flat 24psi from boost onset to 8000rpms with my BBK full. Really though, it almost doesn't matter; we put down nearly identical numbers.

Have fun with it!

thanks for the kudos jeff-

in response to the curve.... the car was a bit knock prone up top.. so i pulled some timing and tapered the boost curve to suit

cheers

Congrats on the #'s.

Seems like that BBK is a very good stock framed turbo.

To make it a little easier to read, here's your chart.

just curious as to how swapping out the ets 3.5" IC with a CBRD IC would benefit?

also...what kind of actuator is everyone using with this turbo? is it the stock evo 9 one or do you have to purchase a high boost actuator?

chad seemed to think the garret core would lower the ait quite a bit allowing him to hold more boost and put some timing back into it. he has me real curious about what gains it will provide. i would like to give it a shot and see what happens.

im pretty sure mine came with a stock acuator.

Ya, one thing I've noticed that doesn't seem to be discussed too often is that IX's seem to like timing more than boost and will often make similar or more power with boost tapering a bit up top and running a bit more timing, versus more boost up top and less timing (seems like VIII's perfer this). Never anything wrong with dialing back both for a more conservative tune though. Reliability > power

The garret core will flow more and cool better, let you run more timing and more boost, all of which result in more power

Looks good, all these BBK graphs popping up are super linear and seem to climb all the way to 7500 and more..
