My biggest question is then why didn't it happen at once? I could see if something broke went through and killed the turbo and then the car ran like **** after the new turbo was on.

Thats not the case here.

It ran a full 10+ laps at WOT lol. We are talking at buttonwillow of all places....It did it FAST on top of that. We're talking beating GTR times etc...

I wonder what could have "broke" that

1. would have done that much damage to the turbo and
2. not cause an IMEDIATE failure AFTER the new turbo setup was one.

I really don't know at this point. Hopefully it will get situated... because I'd REALLLLLY like to drive the car hahaha

I would say valve Gide or anything like that. He said that the plugs had melted, so most likely some magma from debris. The wheel is Ti so assume that it's brittle, any thing will cause it to chip as it did.

The old turbo was never run at this track. In fact i really hate this track... as it brings up BAD memories lol. This was the first time I had even been to this track since 04? I'll see if Matt remembers the back speed straights...

Thanks

After you factor in flights and hotels... it really is about the same cost to have it transported. I figure it will cost around $3000 to ship round trip in an enclosed trailer...maybe a little less. Then I can forget about the car and focus on all the other stuff...Haha... my GF (or my house for that matter) hasn't seen much of Me in the last several weeks err months I guess. I really wanted to kill at these events.... but this was the last challenge really for the year. Also with redline going bye bye its time to see who or whst pops up.

You log EGTs at all or have a gauge?

Would it be logical to assume something went out the exhaust part of the engine, into the turbine, ate some turbine blades and that damage caused the bend shaft?

Something valve train related maybe broke off (valve guide piece or s/th like that?), further causing the engine failure later on with the 'new' turbo?
Will be interesting to see whats decided, one thing to bare in mind is the compressor is billet and likely to bent/wear - the turbine is a comparatively brittle TiAL compound which is more likely to shatter on heavy contact. If the shaft "just bent" then you'd see the same thing.

Nope.

Just:

Oil temp / Water temp / Boost / A/F

One of those had always been my problem child... lol...

Here's my path of logic.

Dave tunes the engine with the previously damaged turbcharger on the car. It's rubbing on the housing or missing parts of the turbine wheel... or the CHRA has bits of steel in it. SOMETHING is wrong with the turbocharger evident by it's complete lack of response (4th gear spool is worse than the HTA76 in 3rd gear) That's a HUGE WAIVING RED FLAG.

You get the car, run it for 2 laps... turbo eats itself. You go get a new turbo and put it on... The new turbo A) spools up much faster and therefore runs through parts of the map Dave couldn't and didn't tune...and its more efficient and has more mass flow per psi of boost since it's not damaged. This causes the AFR's to go lean... maybe not SUPER lean, but lean enough to run your EGT's through the roof for extended track sessions.

You melt everything in your combustion chamber and send it through your new turbo. New turbo gets a UFO to meet with the TiAL turbine wheel, chips off a huge section of it, causes severe imbalance and bends the shaft.

Tough part about their FMEAs is determining which came first...the engine or the turbo. Pretty easy to follow which one killed what in Leet's case though.

Looks like leet needs a new engine, new turbo, and a tuner who can check your logs and make adjustments to the tune trackside. Since you race in California... RRE or Church seem like great options.

Never. It is setup at a Conservative 8,000 rpm.

We still based the shift points off the dyno which was 7,000rpm. So all shifting was done at 7,000 as to maximize power.
