I tuned a MKIV Supra with a v88. The owner is wanting a 8374 EFR... which has a turbospeed sensor... which will be easy to setup.

I have heard wonders of the Vi-Pec down here... If I have money left by the end of the build , I will switch my AEM to Vi-Pec, definetely.

Have you dealt with Link Electro-Systems in NZ? They develop the ECU (Link G4 range) the Vipec is based on - could be just easier to go straight to them They're good to deal with, and I love the software/hardware - if you've used Vipecs then you'd be right at home with it.

I don't think I will ever switch from Haltech to be honest. I am so happy with it and I've used quite a few others.

Wasn't trying to convince you away from Haltech, just mentioning that Vipec has a twin for general interests sake.

Ben isn't posting, I know he's tired.

Bad news..........the car is blown up. I guess at this point we can figure the turbo was junk when it was here as it's the only thing that makes sense. Ben left here with the car, ran two 20 minute sessions with the car last week and then in the 3rd session the turbo took a crap.

He got the new turbo from Geoff, got it on and ran yesterday. 10 laps in the car melted the tips off the spark plugs. It didn't go from perfect and running 20 minute sessions trouble free to detonating and burning plugs off for no reason. I asked for a log but what I got was a short time of driving and idle on the log, no WOT or boost at all, not sure why. I have Ben checking a few more simple things like the double pumper relay and the fuel pressure regulator boost source, if those come back fine then I can only assume the new turbo is flowing a hell of a lot more air than the old one that broke and the car went lean from it.......

I am sick to my stomach over it.

This really is terrible. Very bad news for Ben, especially after such a huge effort from everyone involved to make this work.

Best of luck in sorting everything out, Ben.

Dang that sucks big time!

How bad is the damage?

It might explain the odd numbers/backpressure from the dyno like you said though. If the shaft bent during one of the early dyno pulls then that would not allow it to spin as freely right?

That would then lead to increased backpressure and thus being more knock prone. I think you might be on to something there.

The problem now goes from wanting to know if the EFR's make the power they have been hyped to make to will they blow up my motor? I know I am rethinking placing an order for one unless they can give a real good reason for the failures.

if it flowed that much more, thats great news. how ever, the motor melting **** is horrible, as said before so much time and effort has been put into this car these last few weeks. very disheartning.

wish you the best Ben!

for ben: what was your mph on the back straight with the old turbo vs the new turbo?
