BR 2.3, FP Black DBB, E85.. my personal evo
Hey Tom, just curious as to what gears you are using in the Shep transmission. Are they standard 8 gears or something else? Are you still using the stock final drive ratio or did you go with a 4:11 or something else?
ya thats what people are telling me..
================================================== ===
for those who would like some data on water pressure activity i made a little video here:
================================================== ====
Here is a few pull on private property to show how the car responds in colder weather and 35psi taper to 29.. this graph here
first video is a short 2nd gear pull with cold tires:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y45bLUQQS8k
2nd video is a longer video with 2nd and 3rd gear runs.
I also show how responsive the turbo is from a 3rd gear punch
at 2500rpm.. its fully spooled by 3500rpm.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XINs3zWEtgg
and last but not least.. I figured id make this video to help some others
on evom and evo community in general to learn how water pressure responds
in their evos and some little tips and tricks how to keep it even lower then normal
during cruising.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b0OsbFV2Adk
hope you enjoy guys. i took the time to make the vids, im to lazy to edit them though.. temps in the vids was around 38f
Nice vids. LOL @ the Lamar Odom going to dallas on the radio. Raido was pretty loud.
What size/type tires you using?
I have Hankook RS2's 265 35 18 all around and can't get them to spin like that.

Those are some crazy video's Tom. Be careful with that beast because it definitely doesn't want to stay hooked up in that colder weather!
Ya yours def wont spin like mine.. keep in mind i have a 2.3L and a quick spooling turbo, fp black.. its got full boost by 3500 if you punch it around 2500rpm, so its like a 16g almost in response.. its amazing for a 68lb/min turbo.
also, you're on stock block, so the tune is probably set to really keep your torque down to keep your block together.
This car also has full suspension with energy bushings, whiteline roll kit, etc.. if i did this with stock suspension it would spin 3rd like this.. the stock suspension sucked.
in the summer time, it will only spin 1st hard, 2nd grabs easy.. so its just the cold weather doing it.
you had to roll your fender to fit a 265 right?
ya, it did this last year also. its really fun in cold weather. but doesn't your fp green do this also? id figure it would spin 2nd since your setup should hit as hard as mine if not a little harder as far as spool goes.
i was gonna say ya, the single scroll maybe, but i can duplicate the boost curve quite easy with a 3 port on the car.. not hard to make a flat boost curve.
the single scroll makes the black spool like a hta3582 tho, if i want that ill just get a hta3586 on the car and be done.

ill switch states with you tho.. i hate pa weather in the winter.

However, Robert did indicate that modifying these to an external wastegate and nailing the boost to the wall can result in some serious turbo overspeed situations, especially on 2.3 setups. Of course it flows more on a single scroll conversion but I'm also with you on that, it should be T3 time at that point unless you're going specifically for a record with this turbo.. they run great with a proper setup on the twin scroll configuration agreed. I ran mine peak at 39.7 tapers to 36 at 8300rpm with electronic boost control. (that's boost gauge on Pure's mustang dyno which he says is going to read about 1psi low since it is a remote mount.) Holding boost to 'redline' is great as long as it's because that is what we want it to do and not because the engine is lacking ve on the top end

thats gotta be a 2L.that run i did where i went up to 573 tq or something was like 44psi taper to 35ish on a mbc. (and 2 deg under mbt) im not gonna run that much boost ever again, its just to much for the turbo.. i think these turbos are the best at 35 spike taper to say 31 out the top.. that seems like a badass boost curve to me and the turbo will spin forever a healthy life at that boost curve rate. for the track i will prob be pushing 34 out the top or more.. whatever it takes.
yep. external gate will overspin the turbo much easier then an internal. i remember Sean Ivey telling me that actually a few years ago. i feel theres no need for an external gate on a twin scroll stock frame setup.. and i believe in order to have a true twin scroll external gate you need 2 external gates.
i feel the internal gate is plenty enough control.. i will continue to run the black for a long time.. i do have a goal and its 140mph in the 1/4 with a full weight evo.. whether thats possible i dont know.. but i will break every part on the car to find out.

Yea 2.0 lol, the highest it was run as a spike was also 44 but that was a couple years ago on switzers dynojet. My plans were always to send it in for a freshening up over this winter, of course now that there is a ball bearing upgrade that would be the route to go.
Can't wait to see you hit that 140mph goal with a full weight car!

is that on a 2.3 also? that is really pushing it close as far as shaft speed goes. 36 at 8300 is freaking TONS of boost on the black
