unfortunately, we never will be able to see the result on this car because the turbo blow.

why?

i don't know, i send two email to fp with out answer so we never know. but it completely die yesterday.

however, i will buy a really better turbo later this year ( a bbk ball bearing), and show you the result after tom tune it.

Sorry to read about the failure. Did you ever get a new turbo and the car back on the road? What went wrong with the HTA71?

Damn, this isn't the first HTA71 failure I've seen. Makes me wonder if there's something wrong with it? Its an OEM CHRA so I thought there should be OEM reliability out of it.

I don ´t know what was wrong with it. Fp would like me to send the turbo but i dont do it because of the shipping and duty... After the incident,i bought another hat71 ( the 600$ upgrade) because i already have the wastegate and the turbine housing...so it was the cheapest and the fastest solution i found.but i buy the fp oil line and the ams oilpan. Like i said, here in quebec season last only 4-5 month.... After i put the new one, i made 3 track day and my exaust and piping where full of oil.so i send the turbo back to fp and they said it was perfect but they charge me 180$ to rebuild it...they said there is compression in my bottom end(24 psi and 10k miles motors...)i try to sell the turbo but here in quebec there is not alot of evo so i decide to keep it. We are in winter now and i am restoring the car but in the beginning of summer, i will ask tom if he want to finish the tune and i will post result here.

But i just want to said that my stock evo 8 turbo did more track day in two year then two hta71 and it still in good shape( 80 000 miles). The first hta last 3000 miles and the second 1000 mile.

When it will broke in the middle of the year, i will buy a bbk for shure.just my 2 cent.
Thank you
Jf paquin

I believe so....as long as the other supporting mods are there.

I am toying with the idea of a 71hta on a 2.4L.....yeah, i know the turbo is small, but lets face it, 500 whp/tq is nice & easy to handle with simple clutches too.

I have the 71hta installed on my car with all supporting bolt ons etc, built 2.3 on e85 @ 25psi right now, and put down 353whp and 372wtq on a mustang dyno with a leaking blow off valve and my pcv valve was stuck open. Will be tuned on 30+psi once I get my catch can from STM. Should be close to 500whp on dynojet once it's fully tuned.

Whatever the issue is once it's resolved of course we will redo the tune for you.

I have done a bunch of 71HTA they normally do not fail. I think you have bad luck though for sure with this turbo.

At what point (WHP wise) does the stock turbine finally choke the motor?

The 71HTA looks like the biggest wheel mismatch on that turbine, bringing down the efficiency and raising back pressure. Not sure if it's really that big a deal though since there are no published maps. It'd seem like one would want a bigger turbine to hit the 500 range especially on a stroker with those big exhaust pulses.

Its a good turbo for a 2.0L to have fun with. It wont do much for a 2.3 or 2.4 it will be done uptop pretty early. similar to how that HKS 7460GT II car was i did here https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...60gt2-e85.html

Robert had some real crazy results with his personal evo with the 71HTA also.

Off the top of my head i've tuned the 71hta about 12 times i think. This is the first case i've seen where it had failures.

Maybe you are right tom. Maybe it is that i am so badlucky with that turbo. Do you know if in the 11 other hta you did, if there is another one who only road course with the car? Like a minimun of 1 and half hour of track per week...
I start to think that maybe i ask to much of it. Maybe its a good street turbo, not mean to be race.

Road racing I would say either feed from oil filter housing or buy a ball bearing turbos. Of course the other option is you are having cavitation issues with the oil pump sucking air. The turbo is always the first thing to fail. Ball bearing 71 would be pretty sweet. I would say that is a great setup for road racing.

Nice setup

My 71hta is on it's way

I'll be running it with a muse o2 dump and e85 other than that same setup as OP

I want a balanced autocross road racing car.

Well I'll say the 71HTA is a really great turbo for auto-X and road course stuff.
