No new news. This local guy here is really busting *** on this project though and to be honest might come through before these shops that have been working on it for the last year. I hope so.

I cannot upgrade a stock turbo to a Ti/Al turbo. I will probably take stock perfect condition turbos in on trade towards a brand new unit though. I have been buying up stock turbos, manifolds and 02 housings when I can get them at a good price lately. We have done some pretty extensive porting on the parts and have sent them out for ceramic coating. When they come back I am going to do some testing on them and see what kind of gains we can get from just the port work. Last time we did this, on our 2003, we just went in and cleaned them up a little. There were no gains on the dyno. This time we made some fairly major changes in how we ported the parts and are expecting to see something from it.

If and when it all works out we will be offering the parts ported and ceramic coated.

my question is this.. i am planning on purchasing a downpipe soon, and it will be mated to an HKS Hi-Power catback. what size downpipe should i go with if i will be using this modified turbocharger as well as the catback that i already have? i am torn between the HKS, Fujitsubo, and Works systems.. what are your thoughts?

I think people are just getting confused by terminology..

and before anyone gets completely confused, almost everyone who is talking about this is talking about the 10.5 turbine housing..

The exception being myself, since I purchased a compressor cover to see if there was a difference.

Wastegate Actuator is the brass looking vacuum cannister thing on the turbo
Wastegate Solenoid is the BOOST solenoid
Compressor cover is the cold side of the turbo (nobody has to change this)
Turbine Housing (10.5) is the hot side with the revised wastegate flapper.
Wastegate/Flapper is part of the turbine housing on this turbo.
20G or 16G is the compressor wheel
then there's the Impeller, or Turbine wheel (exhaust wheel) which can be had in Ti/AL

Hope this clears up any confusion.

Good idea to clear that up. I was typing a little slower than my mind was thinking.. I had intented to say the wastegate actuator was the same as well as the solenoid, but it didn't come out that way. Regardless... You cleared it up nicely.

What is the difference between this modified 20g and a run of the mill 20g from mitsu (besides reverse rotation)? Some guy on the lancer registry had a 20g w/ his greddy turbo kit and it was a lot laggier then the stock turbo.

Perhaps the hot side is smaller and more efficient? (wild guess)

normal 20g runs a Td06 turbine wheel which is much bigger, the hybrid turbo still uses the td05 turbine wheel, Also the real 20g has much large compressor cover.

normal 20g uses a different turbine housing as well, not twin scroll.

Been on the phone a half dozen times in the last hour working on this stuff.

That is the only new news.

Yep, I'm being patient.. I'm still trying to find a Beefy enough snap-ring pliers to remove the 2002 (Evo 7 RS2) compressor cover to replace it with a 05 compressor cover so when I send the whole thing to him its already ready for machining and adding of the wheel.. I'm going to have him do the works.... porting, everything possible to the setup before I start taking my car apart... At the moment I'm working on the stroker engine setup and will send out the head around the same time the turbo is turning around.. I should have everything done by the spring.

(just some idle chatter and a bump)

I delt with the same issue last week... I bent my usual pliars and had to go to Sears to pick up a set beefy enough to get the job done. They stock two different types that will do the job. The most expensive only being $25.

I can't wait for the turbo either....

and you might want an extra hand getting those rings in and out while you hold onto the pliers
