3" Electronic Dump Valve - Pics & Video!

I finally got my electronic dump valve idea fabricated and installed. Here's a few pics of it as I explain:

The silver piping on the right side is a 3" elbow pipe fabricated to bolt onto the stock o2 housing. It's welded to a 3" Y-pipe which is welded to taper down to the stock downpipe at one end, and on the other end is connected to an electronic butterfly valve which is powered by a torque motor. Wires are run from the motor through the engine bay and into the car itself, where a 2-way switch is placed and hidden.

Open vs Closed Results:

The turbo lag is decreased dramatically. I will do some testing on exact rpm#'s later on when I find a safe road to do so. Boost comes on hard and strong, almost immediately once it starts to spool... unlike before where you can feel the boost gradually generate. I go through the first 3 gears extremely fast compared to before. It's a night and day difference between open and closed. When closed, the car drives and SOUNDS just like it did before, completely stock. No exhaust leak, no sign or hint of the electronic dump valve.

Downsides... it may be far FAR too loud for some of you people when open... but then again, having the option to close it deletes this problem. If you idle at one spot for over a minute, the fumes might start to engulf you. The idle sometimes likes to dip low and almost die as well.

I am dyno'n this Saturday and I'll have results of open vs closed for everyone on Sunday posted. Here is a video of I made of the comparison (small video):

I could hear the turbo fully well before the fabrication, with my mods... and yes, with the valve open, I can still hear the turbo... as well as much much more.

I was thinking about having another elbow pipe fabricated to bolt onto the butterfly valve so I can aim the gases (and fireballs) straight down... however, clearance is already a very tight issue. The lower tie bar gets in the way of anything... and my car is lowered and I don't want any possibility of anything scraping on speed bumps... besides, if I had a side exit, it'd defeat the whole purpose of the "sleeper" style of this mod... and also might not clear too well underneath the car.

I hear ya, a couple bends tucked behind the front wheel would keep you from gassing yourself. How bad would running a straight pipe past the rear axle be? Worst case lose a horse or two. You're not worried about lighting floor, rugs, matts onfire?

the sound is day and night, as well as the turbo spool is completely different.

it does have some issues, but overall, thumbs up.

The problem with the exhaust gases overwhelming me really isn't too bad... only presents to be a problem when I'm parked... and a few rev's pushes the fumes away anyways...

Not worried about burning anything up... shouldn't be anything really flammable or dangerous.

Valve was purchased from http://www.quicktimeperformance.com/

Wow, I was just looking at these today. I'm seriously considering this setup. What downpipe did you go with and do you think there really is no difference between the choices of downpipes? Did you run into any issues with the o2 sensor, or knock sensors throwing you off?
