^Thats true. I agree and wouldn't mind to see a budget build. HOWEVER it seems like vishnus (i think it was 45k evo?) was in last years competition and did well and it was on what seemed to be a fairly conservative budget. I don't think it would be arrogant at all to build up your evo and make it own everyone. I mean if giving your dodge viper which already has 500 crank hp and sticking two turbos on it for more than 900bhp isn't arrogant, than i don't know what is. I think its time people see what evos can do and what buschur racing can do. You already have a strong following and customer base and none of us will think it arrogant of you. I say build the poo out of it and kick some ***. Meanwhile I'll be helping by sending more money for parts
I would go with the budget build. It would be more impressive to see a car that someone can actually build for a reasonable amount of money hang with or beat the other more modified cars. I think out of reach budget busting cars are boring....it is cooler to see the guy who had a budget and a good plan come in and compete with the big spenders.
I have to admit, there is nothing I enjoy more than seeing someone spend a ton of cash on parts and then thier car either does not run well or breaks.
I think by following the stages you have for your parts, you could build a pretty serious Evo.

If I am reading this thread correctly it is the Supertuner Challenge, not the Supercar Challenge. First place last year Hennessey twin turbo viper budget was $162,054. If your car were to compete with the big blocks I say all out budget. Otherwise go with the budget build and good luck Dave I am sure you will bring a reputable car.
I am in the boat where I am on a budget build but I already know David is the man when it comes to the 4G63. I had one of his Big 16G's in my DSM and that thing was fast as hell!. So what would I vote for? :P With that said I would go for an all out race car. That is what 99.9% of the tuners are going to do probably. 2nd place is the first loser in most people's eyes... Anyway alot of people know that you build affordable parts for budget builders. Let's see what Buschur Racing can do with an ALL out the sky is the limmit build.
Congrats Dave! I'm looking forward to the competition and though I don't own any of your stuff yet I plan to change that this spring.
In regard to the build up, I think the guys have it right you should go all out.
Think Mitsubishi and Ralliart would loan you these guys for a weekend?

Maybe David can clarify....is this going to be the BIG shootout, or the super-four shootout only? I think that makes a big difference. Either way, I put my vote in for budget, but that was before I read the first few posts. On the fence now

Holy crap, this topic exploded overnight.
I want to thank all of you that have responded so far. I must truly be interested because I have read just about every post TWICE up to the bottom of page four right now.
Forcefed and Vishnu are right, I didn't call this event by the proper name. It is the Super Four Challenge. This event will include only 4 cylinder vehicles. One class for FWD and one for AWD/RWD.
I have read a few suggestions to keep the stock tires/wheels. The stock tires are not an option as I wrote in the begining. You have to run a spec tire that gets a brand put on it and you have to buy this tire from the Tire Rack. The stock wheels while they are nice aren't the lightest thing out there and they aren't the prettiest. At SEMA this year Volk was releasing a new limited production wheel that I drooled over. I have them on order and I should have them by the end of March.
I would love to completely outline every single part and choice and I have made up to this point. I actually just deleted a long paragraph that I did it in
I don't know how much I need to put out on the table for ALL to read.
Hell two other guys that have been invited have already been to this topic and have made mention of cars they are bringing, not EVO's, but were smart enough to not be specific. Bottom line is we could all type up what we are doing and it makes so little difference it wouldn't hurt anything. It's like a guy asking me what turbo I run on my tube car, he must think that is what makes the car fast when it actually has so little to do with the entire combination.
The lack of ABS on this car will only hurt us if it rains and we have to run in it. I don't see that happening. I believe I can stop a car without ABS just as fast as with, maybe faster. It has been proven that a professional driver under controlled conditions can stop non ABS cars faster than ABS equipped. This is under CONTROLLED conditions, in a panic stop it would never happen. In the case of this event there is a read out on the dash that says when you hit 150 mph and you then brake from there. You would be very prepared to brake.
About our cat for the EVO. It's odd that you felt a difference running a different brand as the difference at 315 whp between our cat and an 3" offroad pipe was only 7 whp. I'd say that is pretty good. Also would have to say it would be hard to feel 7 whp difference. The cat is something they want to see, doesn't take away from the competitive portion of the event. Maybe I'll leave it off.
The Magnaflow muffler on our exhaust will easily pass the decibel test of the event and it only costs us about 2 whp. I think you get a 10 second penalty if you fail the decibel test. That is huge.
More reading.

Rich,
Yes, this is the 2nd Fourgasm story. They did it the first time in 2003 and didn't do it last year.
We are doing a bunch of testing before this race. Robert is coming here for the Mitsubishi vs Subaru Showdown we are holding April 15th. This is when we hope to setup the suspension, braking etc. Will also be the first time this car is down the 1/4 mile. It will be on pump gas and stock turbo for the first outing. Give me an idea if we need more or not at that point.
Making big power on pump gas is the problem. With no nitrous, race gas, water or alky injection it makes doing it harder. No matter how we show up at this race I will be keeping an eye on the other competitors for cheating. Would like nothing better than to see someone thrown out and banned for cheating. I think they should do a mandatory fuel sample. Also think every car should be HIGHLY inspected for hidden fuel cells or hidden alky/water injection. I guess since I am a man of my word and would never cheat I'd like to see a very good inspection process for everyone, just to keep everyone honest.
Go back and look at some of the results from these events in the past and remember when reading that 93 octane has been the mandatory fuel for each event.
I think I should have added to my poll when I did this. One other that said, "If you don't own any Buschur Racing parts, why the hell not?!" haha

Good luck with the build Dave. I am sure that Robi will drive the wheels off your Evo a the event. I am looking forward to seeing everyone at this Super Flea challenge and I think there is a Caterham showing.... ouch!
I hope they don't have a turbo in that thing with about 1200 pounds to lug around.
